Great day at the Attachment Research Community Conference. Privileged to hear the lived experience of care leavers and about attachment aware and trauma informed practice in settings. @attachmentrc
And we’re off.
Fantastic to be in the room with so many wonderful professionals focusing on #Attendance across @UnitedLearning schools. A great start is to ensure that we align with the #Values that all of the schools work working.

The 3 Rs-Regulate, Relate, Reason. Overlaps beautifully with #emotioncoaching. Serves as useful reminder that 'relating' might not go to plan if a C&YP is not sufficiently regulated. Part of attuning to a child is noticing & responding appropriately to their levels of regulation.
There is a very fine line between what is fun and what brings fear for those who have experienced developmental trauma….everything merges in the chaos and risk around.
You are only seven but your eyes hold the horror of all that you saw. No wonder you scan the room. Your skin holds the pain of all that was icky. No wonder you complain of aches and pains. Your heart holds the scars of all that went on. No wonder you distrust my lead.
Not sure what is exactly meant by tackling the difficulty ‘head on’ but I’m doubtful that this approach will consider the individualised complexities of the difficulty. 🤦🏻♀️
Well this will be interesting…
The education secretary has vowed to tackle persistent pupil absences “head on”, describing it as a “key priority”.

Huge congratulations to the amazing Emma Raducanu! So frustrated though to hear her described in the media as ‘the full package’ because of her mindset, talent …and beauty. Just how is our society’s arbitrary construction of beauty relevant to her achievements? 🤯
Absolutely! EPs must challenge discourses which construct the difficulty as within child, rather than recognising the multi-systemic contributory factors, if we are to effectively support young people vulnerable to or experiencing extended school non-attendance.
There are no words that seem adequate to describe the devastating situation that is unfolding in Afghanistan - so terrible for so many and catastrophic for our sisters. Always grateful for those that fought for the rights I have today.
@Duncanjee@DrMarySD Great training with you both today and over the last couple of months. Excited to see how we can embed ACT in our therapeutic offer and our service as a whole. Lots of summer reading to do!
