Thank you to the community and my colleagues on the Berkeley City Council @cityofberkeley for making Berkeley the first city in California and the United States to prohibit natural gas infrastructure in new buildings! #ClimateEmergency#ElectrifyEverything
In recent years, the people of Georgia have flooded the streets, standing up against police brutality and the brutal crackdown on peaceful protests. They are determined to pursue a democratic future, yet their government is blocking that path. Instead of moving towards democracy, the government is adopting Russian-style laws that curtail freedom.
On October 26, Georgia held its parliamentary elections. The ruling party claims victory, but the civil society of Georgia, including election observers, has clearly stated that the results do not reflect the true will of the people. Widespread violations were reported, both before and during election day.
I stand with the people of Georgia in their call for a full investigation and for new, truly free and fair elections.
The world must pay attention. The people of Georgia deserve to have their voices heard. They deserve the chance to choose their future. This is not just their fight; it is the fight of every person who believes in freedom, equality, and justice. And we must stand with them.
BIG NEWS: New York Governor Kathy Hochul is moving to revive congestion pricing after Trump’s win. She’s apparently looking to enact the “delayed policy” that was assumed killed before Trump takes office.
Very interesting. That would be a very good thing. https://t.co/WLCBaWjjaL
If you live in Berkeley, Oakland or Albany, please vote for Nikki Fortunado Bas for County Supervisor, who is capable, progressive & not beholden to real estate or police interests. Her opponent's supporters have sent ugly and false mailers. More info: https://t.co/1LuNDzxgpA
35 years later. An homage to ACT UP NY’s 1989 action on Halloween where members protested Trump outside Trump Tower to demand housing for people with AIDS (PWAs) and connected Trump’s greed to the lack of it.
Group behind the East Bay recalls sent out a mailer that also opposed Prop 3 (marriage equality), a position that puts them to the right of the California Republican Party, which was neutral on 3.
Vote no on the recalls, and Yes on 3.
This event commemorates the origins of Berkeley’s famous early modal filters (those star wars looking concrete planters). They were initially a huge controversy but now they’re a beloved part of the residential street grid.
I lived in Berkeley for a decade many years ago. I came back to give a talk at the university and I completely forgot how good the food is here.
Here’s a random aisle in the grocery store with 10 kinds of egg plant.
@Heather_mom4nuk@Kate4Berkeley I am not against nuclear per se. This deal isn’t producing anything new renewable energy or growing our economy. It’s a distraction.
As our kids go #BackToSchool, never forget that we ARE the traffic that we’re using as an excuse. If they walked, biked or rode transit to school, it would erase a massive number of car trips each day, and our kids would be safer, healthier and better at school.
Spread the word.

@BerkSafeStreets In 1922, concerned about declining car sales because automobiles were causing pedestrian deaths, automakers coined the term “jaywalking” to blame pedestrians for using the roads. Public land is for everyone.
@IDoTheThinking The project in Solano goes in the exactly the wrong direction: taking pristine land and turning it into housing. We need infill, not destruction of our natural spaces.
