Today we have been re-arranging our house to be more wheelchair-friendly, and tomorrow Maddie will start her big challenge - to spend 7 days in a wheelchair to raise money for Canine Partners. If you’d like to sponsor her, please have a look at Maddie’s JustGiving page.
@Cycling_Embassy Great plan, and the translation to English is much appreciated too… but there’s no need to use the word ‘they’ in your tweet when referring to people with disabilities. If we’re an inclusive society, we need inclusive language.
Week in a Wheelchair in aid of Canine Partners: Job done and £2124 raised!!
Maddie’s JustGiving page is still open if you’d like to donate. Big thanks to everyone who has done so - you’ve made us so happy.
We’ll leave you with Maddie and Wilhelmina (half term sewing project!)
Maddie’s general confidence and positivity in the wheelchair has grown during this challenge too. It’s been great to watch!
Maddie finishes her challenge at lunchtime tomorrow, so it’s not too late to sponsor her, go to https://t.co/aMrKNCVcoI and search Madeleine Hooker.

Lessons from day 7...
Today we had a birthday in the house!! After lessons Maddie made a totally amazing birthday cake for her sister. She has been planning the design for some time!
The cake looks & tastes fab, but the best bit about it as I see things was the way Maddie moved about and managed in the kitchen. Her ability to manoeuvre, get around awkward cupboard doors/handles, too high work surfaces and the oven door has improved so much in the last week.
If you’d like to sponsor Maddie for her efforts, please follow the QR code. There are more details of her exploits there too. If you would like to find out about the amazing work of Canine Partners their website is great.
Maddie has raised £1830 so far, her target is £5000!!

Lessons from day six:
Literally, lessons!! Remote school started again today. Maddie had a full morning of live lessons online, followed by a whizz round the block in her wheelchair!! A very successful day!

Lessons from day 5...
Maddie made bread today, and found that trying to work in a small, un-adapted kitchen was tricky. How do you open a kitchen cupboard when your wheelchair chair is in front of it? ...
... And how do you reach the cupboard handle when your wheelchair isn’t in front of it? Washing up was a challenge too. She certainly got round all the problems in the end though, and the bread was delicious.

Lessons from day 4
Today we braved things ‘out and about’, taking our daily exercise in the park in Bedord. It showed us that getting around can be very hard work, Maddie needed a lot of help by us pushing her!
Whilst out today, we bumped into some old friends, and both the ice cream van and the coffee kiosk were open in the park - all in all a very successful trip, and the most interesting things to have happened in weeks 😁😁.
