Career update! 📚✨
After nearly a decade in publishing, I’ve officially resigned from my full-time position at @Sourcebooks to focus on my freelance business full-time. Before Sourcebooks, I was at @CornellPress for 6.5 years.
I’m now available for:
• Developmental, line & copyediting
• Proofreading
• Editorial, Design & Production (EDP) quality assurance
• Writing & journalism
• Sensitivity/authenticity reads
• Manuscript evaluations & cold reads
• Publishing & career consultations
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who’s helped me get here.
If you know an author, publisher, nonprofit, business, or organization looking for support, I’d love an introduction.
And one more thing: Sourcebooks has posted my former position, and I’d love to help them find a great person. I’ll share the job posting in the comments for anyone who’s interested.
Reposts are hugely appreciated. 💖📚

@nabibreads I just finished and really enjoyed “Small Things Like These” by Claire Keegan and “How To Stay Sane” by Philippa Perry and am about halfway through “What Happened to You?” by Oprah and Dr. Bruce Perry

Thank you so much, Katie! Congrats on publishing your book. That’s incredibly exciting! 🎉📚 If you’re looking for editorial services, publishing consultation, or just want to talk through the process, those are services I offer, and I’d be happy to help. Feel free to send me a DM, and we can find a time that works. Looking forward to hearing more about your book!
🧠 My mind isn’t a maze. It’s a labyrinth.
As a person with ADHD on the spectrum, that metaphor has always felt far more accurate than calling my brain “scattered.”
A maze is designed to confuse you.
A labyrinth has one winding path. Sometimes it doubles back. Sometimes it feels like you’re getting farther away from where you’re trying to go.
But if you stay on the path, it leads somewhere meaningful. 💖
That’s exactly how my brain works.
A conversation about editing somehow becomes one about psychology. A publishing workflow sparks a novel idea. A trip to Ireland becomes a dream of studying neuroscience and growing Misread Press.
The connections aren’t random; they’re just not always obvious at first.
For years I wished my brain worked differently.
Now I’m finally learning to trust the path. 💜✨

@bellsnova Ok so you like fantasy and literary… “Dreadful” by @CaitlinRozakis or “The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making” by @catvalente. And “Small Things Like These” by Claire Keegan.
@ireniccccccc Bookstores and shops around the US and the world 😄 I’ve gotten books in Amsterdam, Paris, Ireland, Chicago, NYC, Boston, Tennessee, Atlanta, Iceland, India, Norway, Italy, and so many more! My fav bookshop I visited recently was @myopicbookstore in Chi Town! 📚
I’ve noticed a pattern… Nearly every opportunity I pursued through an online application portal ended w/ a rejection email or silence.
Nearly every opportunity that actually went somewhere started with a human-to-human conversation.
A cold email. A DM. A referral. A virtual coffee chat. A real life coffee chat w/ a friend.
Applicants are increasingly using AI to help polish applications. Employers are increasingly using AI or automation to screen them.
Somewhere in the middle, it’s easy for the human behind the application to get lost.
So if you’re looking for work, or freelance clients, keep applying online.
But don’t let “Apply Now” become your entire strategy.
Reach out. Ask questions. Network. Build relationships. Bring value. Be enthusiastic. Be curious.
Some of the best opportunities in my career didn’t start with an application. They started with a conversation.
✨ P.S. - I’m currently available for freelance editing, proofreading, EDP quality assurance, sensitivity reads, fact-checking, writing, and publishing/career consultation. DMs are open. ✍🏼📚

@AuthorGFAllen Yes, of course, always have & always will. But I also do read ebooks and audiobooks as well! They’re often better for traveling especially when it’s a longer trip… tho I did just come back from Ireland w/ 5 physical books 😆 photo: me in Paris w/ 2 physical books
