@YumiStynes bringing much needed perspective on what teaching consent is really about…a lifelong conversation in which the information a parent gives a child is constantly updating to suit their child’s needs and development #UNSWideas#onconsent
@oshergunsberg That does not change the fact that the producers chose to use Jamie’s potential mental health issues as entertainment. I thought we had come further than that.
It is normal for our children to be sad, to fail, to not be liked by everyone, to be disappointed, to get in trouble, to find work hard, to be grumpy & ratty & bad tempered. It is normal for life to not go their way. This is all normal. They are built for it & they will be fine.
Like ice-skating, running a school looks easy when watching from the sidelines and opinions as to how it should be done abound (by those who have never put on ‘skates’) ... but years of blood, sweat and tears go into making the impossible look easy.
Having uncomfortable, yet civil, conversations about topics that we all don’t agree on provides needed context and perspective. Without these conversations, it is difficult to change or improve.
