Every day, around 12 people in Northern Ireland die from cardiovascular disease, with the condition affecting more than 230,000 people here.
Our #redbenchdiaries visited Stormont, where @deborah_cheryl and @mcguigan_philip shared the impact of living with cardiovascular disease.
❤️🙌NEW: Every school in Northern Ireland now has a defibrillator.
🎥🎤Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 was at Ballymoney High School to mark the milestone.
👥Education Minister @paulgivan took part in a training exercise with pupils.
The defibrillator is positioned at the school so that the local community can also use it.
The initiative to roll out Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) has seen 476 devices delivered to schools since it was announced in November 2024.
Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces a person’s chances of survival by up to 10%.
Since 2022, more than 500 teachers have been trained through the Community of Lifesavers Programme, developed by the Department in partnership with CCEA and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
We also hear from the Head of @BHFNI, Fearghal McKinney.
Did you see the wonderful Polly the dog from Ballinamallard hitting the headlines this week?
When Polly's owner Adam had a cardiac arrest last year, the golden retriever's life-saving instincts alerted Adam's wife Hannah, who started #CPR and rang the emergency services, saving Adam's life.
Polly and Hannah were honoured at British Heart Foundation's #HeartHeroes awards in London this week.

⚠️❤️NEW: Two areas in NI among 'worst places in the UK to suffer a cardiac arrest', with just one in ten people surviving an out-of-hospital heart stoppage.
🎤🎥Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 has been speaking to Fearghal McKinney, Head of @BHFNI.
The charity is particularly keen to receive applications from Twinbrook in Dunmurry and Lagan Valley in Lisburn — areas identified as having limited access to defibrillators, putting residents at greater risk of death from cardiac arrest.
Mr McKinney emphasised that this issue is not limited to these two areas — much more still needs to be done across Northern Ireland.
@TheBHF
A huge thank you to the members of @NIACfEd for your support and enthusiasm in our Classroom RevivR demonstration. Supporting schools and pupils to perform #CPR and how to use a defibrillator is an essential life skill.

It was wonderful to connect with so many of our amazing supporters at our recent supporter event held at Belfast City Hall.
Our supporters’ contributions whether through fundraising, volunteering, or simply by spreading awareness, have made @TheBHF the largest independent funder of heart and circulatory disease research in Northern Ireland.
Today is #WorldHeartDay & @BHFNI spoke to @QuintinOliver about his experience of life-threatening heart infection #endocarditis and his journey back to health.
A really interesting & inspiring read on his recovery👇❤️
Thank you so much to our amazing families for sharing their heartbreaking & powerful stories of sudden cardiac death.
And to BHF funded CureHeart researcher @KathrynMcGurk & our Health Lead Karen McCammon for sharing the important work that BHF does in the services offered to families and the progress of our lifesaving research ❤️
