This is an important day for the vaccine injured and bereaved @VIBUK_Official hopes the Inquiry will acknowledge critical issues around communication, casualties, and compensation and to deliver meaningful recommendations that reflect the experiences of those affected.
It shouldn't take until Oct to respond the Gov have known about the inadequate support before they came to office. The Inquiry merely confirmed it. Just another example of those harmed being fobbed off yet again. You won't rebuild trust delaying. Just further damage it.
Time and time again the government fail the people it is supposed to represent and protect!
Often it is from tireless campaigning and campaigners tenacity that the gov are forced to act and even then they never act promptly.
"To not introduce this would be unbelievably cruel"
In PMQs, Sir Keir Starmer is asked when his Government will respond to the Hughes Report.
Published more than 2 years ago, it set out how a compensation scheme could be set up for victims of sodium valproate and pelvic mesh:
⚠️ 10 June deadline to share your views on the VDPS
MPs on the Public Accounts Committee are looking at how compensation schemes are set up and managed, and what a good system might look like. We want to hear from people who have applied to a scheme.

If you could change one thing about the VDPS process to make it better for people like you what would it be?

Another evasive disappointing Government response, which once again offers no timetable for reform of the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme.
Vaccine-injured people and bereaved families have already waited years for recognition, support and meaningful change. Many continue to face financial hardship, loss of income, ongoing care needs and uncertainty about the future while they wait for action.
The need for reform is well established. The UK Covid-19 Inquiry recognised the importance of supporting those seriously affected by vaccination, yet claimants are still being told that updates will come "in due course".
For the families we represent, every delay has a human cost. Warm words and continued consideration are no substitute for action. Vaccine-injured people and bereaved families deserve a clear timetable for reform and the fair, timely support they have waited far too long to receive.

As part of its inquiry into government compensation schemes, the Public Accounts Committee will be taking evidence from expert witnesses with experience of four government compensation schemes: the Windrush Compensation Scheme, compensation and restorative measures for LGBT veterans, the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme, and compensation for subpostmasters affected by the Horizon scandal.
Worth a watch, example after example of how Government compensation schemes are failing victims.
Scheme not working for the victims they were meant to help. Sounds familiar!!!!

@wesstreeting@naushabah_khan Hi Wes - you are welcome to come meet me and discuss how you promised to help the vaccine injured and bereaved? Let me know.
Why do the government fail to support victims despite inquiries & experts calling for redress. The list is endless, mesh injured, the Post Office, infected blood and vaccine injured & bereaved amongst others. Our lives spent fighting for justice.

As of 31/3/2026
568 claims
made to the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme for a Covid Vaccine were rejected not because they didn't meet the criteria for causation but because they were not considered disabled enough to qualify.

At least 125 (data as of 31/12/2025) of those people had been assessed as having at least 30% but less than 60% disability.

@DHSCgovuk@wesstreeting@jamesmurray_ldn @JamesMurrayMP When will you meet with us to discuss our situation and what support you can provide? We were given hope from @wesstreeting and now we’re left waiting for answers. Please let us know when we can speak and what steps you plan to take to help. @VIBUK_Official
Wonder when we will get a Health Secretary who stops considering and actually acts ?
Lets hope no 8 (if you count Steve Barclay twice) @jamesmurray_ldn gets the job done.
Wes, You gave us hope, but you did not follow through. You promised to help my family&others, now we are left without answers. Please reply to my emails & explain how you plan to continue helping us now that it is no longer through SoS.

We lost and we lost big. I’m travelling the country to hear direct from the people and places who have sent Labour a message at the ballot box. Next stop, Newcastle 👇
