@Irishchutzpah A small group of people here in Ireland doing huge damage to us internationally, and the govt inferring at all turns this is a big national issue. It isn’t. It takes eyeballs off housing. I utterly despair.
@orenbarsky Not all of us. Just a small minority who make a lot of noise. Many of us are as frustrated with how Ireland is being painted as you are hearing it. We have a v pro Gaza media - who receive govt funding - and the govt love it as distracts from our domestic issues.
There was a significant foiled plot by Iran in our closest neighbouring country over the weekend and I can’t see it on one Irish paper. Just the soccer match. Where is the coverage?! @rtenews@irishexaminer@thejournal_ie@IrishTimes
@john_mcguirk The lead digital story on yesterday’s Examiner put me in mind of the horrible UK red tops of the 90’s. It was an opinion peace but lead digital story. Not good.
@LarryPDonnelly 1 board member out of 12 is a lack of leadership. This was not the players decision to make hours b4 the match. The FAI let the team down. Lack of leadership whether govt or FAI allows these situations go wild. I believe the game should have been played but handled better by FAI
@IrishTimesOpEd We shouldn’t be encouraging this. Have your beliefs but don’t blow up your career. When you can’t pay your mortgage, international attention means little. Especially when this blows over, attention dwindles and people forget who you are
This is how Ireland used to be. That person. That said let’s all try to get along no matter what we all think. Sound. Calm. Good natured. Good on him for having this as his message.

My Dad used to say: “when someone shows you who they really are, believe them.” I know it’s an old saw, but it feels tailor-made for moments like this.
When all is said and done, I think the events of the past week will backfire spectacularly for Macklemore and everyone else who bailed on the tour.
Remember: they weren’t taking a righteous stance against something he said or did. He wouldn’t bend the knee so they tried to take him down.
How many times have we seen that play out - in the media, in the arts, and in companies large and small - during the past few years?
After his “friend” jeopardized the tour by dressing in Jewface and tried to pass off antisemitism as political commentary, Ed made the right call.
No matter how much the folks who bailed on him try to spin this is as their free speech being violated, it’s just a case of some people acting like spoiled, ill-informed children and one person acting like a sane adult and a professional.
I was never really an Ed Sheeran fan. I am now. https://t.co/VNnTMjRGZM
@DavQuinn Silence is treachery. But so is saying you don’t agree. So what are we left with. Not very many options really. It’s bananas out there. Bananas.
@_QueenMeabh Wow. I’m so sad looking at this. What is happening that we are trying to cancel one another and threaten people that they must speak. It’s gone beyond a joke now. This is feverish and getting dark. This isn’t how Ireland rocks.
@cynimhurchu I remember when Ireland was about peace. The culture that would stand between two sides and say ‘hang on lads, let’s keep this cool’. I remember when being Irish meant not getting into the bear pit, but showing others peaceful calm dialogue was the only road to peace. Not this.
@Stephen63224725 The Irish cricket team recently played Afghanistan. Merciless treatment of women by the taliban. And the utterly horrific practice of bacha bazi 😪 I don’t seem to remember that making even a ripple, never mind a wave. There’s no consistency to this logic
@NicholasTyrone Absolutely bad shit madness. I feel like I’m in 28 days later and everyone has turned into a crazy zombie and only a handful of people haven’t lost their minds…yet
