Act 5: When Hamlet suddenly wants to get Laertes' forgiveness, this shows a shift in Hamlet's mental state and his values. Before this, he only cared about himself and sticking up for his deceased father, but now he seems to care about others.

Act 5: The gravediggers who bury Ophelia can be seen as comedic relief from Shakespeare as they are even recognized as "clowns" in the play stage directions. They are meant to add some humor to the continuous event of death and sorrow.

Act 4: When Hamlet murders Polonius shows an entire new side to his character. The reader now sees him as violent and rash in his actions, and this moment can be compared to the moment when Claudius killed Hamlet.
#falzapham
Act 4: Claudius is increasingly seen as a self-centered and greedy character, and this is evident in his response to Gertrude telling him about Hamlet killing Polonius. His first reaction is that if he was there he would have been in danger.
#falzapham
Act 3: When Hamlet confronts his mother, it is obvious that he is still very hurt by his mother's action of marrying Claudius despite his father's death. He rightfully disapproves of his mother being with him, which may be a foreshadowing.

Act 3: It is obvious that Hamlet's life purpose throughout this play thus far is to prove that Claudius is responsible for his father's death. But, even after he proves that Claudius is guilty, he still does not seem satisfied.
When Ethan and Mattie go on the sled ride at the end of the novel, Ethan's choice to not take control of the sled shows his character flaw of not being able to take control of the situation he was in with Mattie and Zeena. #falzfrome7
The cold is definitely a significant motif because it characterizes Starkfield as a place abundant with loneliness and isolation, and this parallels to Ethan's mood most of the time. This motif contributes to the eery tone of the novel. #falzfrome7
I feel like the societal and domestic constraints of this time period hold Ethan back from pursuing his true love, Mattie. Despite his desire to betray his married life to Zeena to be with Mattie, he is tied down because of his lack of courage. #falzfrome7
#falzfences7 Rose wants to build the fence in order to ensure that the family is bonded together, while Troy dislikes the whole idea of building a fence. Troy being uncommitted to building the fence parallels him being uncommitted in marriage.
@guscouto00 #falzfences7 Yes I agree that he is very close-minded. He feels that the only path for life is to work, and that is why he disapproves of Cory's dream of playing professional football and Lyon's passion for music.
I think Cory's decision to go to his father's funeral was driven by Rose telling him that it does not make him a man to not go. I think him also being in the marines taught him that it was his duty to go to the funeral. #falzfences7
I think that Rose was only living for her family, not for Troy. I think she has a very nurturing and mother-like way about her, and taking care of her kids was her main purpose in her life. #falzfences7
@lilysimon209 Yes I agree. I think this also shows, for the first time, his true resentment in regards to never being able to play baseball and I think this explains why he was so bitter towards his son and didn't let him follow his dream of playing football. #falzfences7
@zyunggg#falzawake717 Yes, although Edna must still have a maternal love for her children, she has a hatred of the relationship that society expects her to have with them.
#falzawake717 One of the most telling parts in regards to Leonce and Edna's marriage is when Edna's friends describe Leonce as "the best husband in the world", and Edna replies in a fake tone. This shows that she was forced to act as if he was perfect to appease others.
@grootahs@storrens09#falzawake717 Yes, possibly the author made Edna kill herself at the end to send a broader message and show how the gender roles and large presence of discrimination at the time was brutal for many women.
@rmcgriskin7 @BiancaPinedaBHS@lauren__browne#falzawake717 Yes, the fact that her death took place in the sea is very symbolic of liberation and freedom from her constraining life. She had always looked towards the sea with curiosity and desire, as it seemed the only way for her to escape.
#falzawake717 I also think the lady in black and the lovers are very symbolic throughout this story because it foreshadows Edna's desires and ultimate personal outcomes. She desires a forbidden love, and also will end up dying as a result of this.
@guscouto00 #falzawake717 Yes, the presence of Alcee Arobin and Robert show her unhappiness and constant attempts to run away from married life. The fact that she had two affairs was very unconventional, specifically in this time period.
