Friends! Sorry I've been MIA as I ramp up at @MoveCAFWD. Here's a piece I just published for @CarnegieEndow, arguing for "place-based" policy approaches to #EnergyTransition--not just climate policy but econ & community development policy as well. Enjoy!

Well folks -- it's time for me to go dark on this platform and move on to something more aligned with my values. Find me on the new one under the same handle, katenrg.
"U.S. Industrial Policy at the Crossroads" program video now available, with @toddntucker from @rooseveltinst, @katenrg, @LauraDTyson of @BerkeleyHaas, Paul Pierson, John Zysman, and myself.

An under-reported story: climate change makes conflict worse (resource scarcity, extreme heat increases violent crime). But conflict also drives climate change (fossil fuel used in fighting, oil as bargaining chip). Here's my back of the envelope (literally) illustration.
That's why it's so important to avoid falling into the trap of believing the best way to fight climate change is "speed and scale" alone, w/o regard to those workers and communities who most feel the impacts and are most innovative in their solutions.
Henry Ford always said we shoud pay autoworkers enough to actually afford the cars they're building. Now thanks to @UAW they may be able to finally come close. That's not only good for workers, it's essential for the
#energytransition.

Good reminder about the reality of foreign aid (only 1% of the national budget/around $60B/year)--in comparison, the fed gov contributes about HALF of @SpeakerJohnson's home state of Louisiana's budget--$20B/year and a larger share than almost any other state.
"The U.S. has long sought energy independence, but in a deeply integrated and interconnected global market, even the shift to being a net oil exporter has not protected the U.S. from the vagaries of the oil market." YES. https://t.co/zib8gvtbsW
House GOP agenda: “Cutting housing subsidies for the poor by 33% as soaring rents drive a national affordability crisis. Forcing more than 1 mill. women & children onto the waitlist of a nutritional assistance program for poor mothers w/ young children.” https://t.co/MuUDS8HaYl
I have to say - as someone just coming off a Biden
admin post where I had ZERO funding/regulatory decisionmaking authority yet had to disclose EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of my financial life including individual funds in my IRA - I find this especially galling. https://t.co/CNmUN317zh
I'm thrilled @HenrySternCA's SB261 will be signed into law by @CAgovernor! Climate risk IS material risk, as our whole @climaterisk crew plus @aaseiger & @nuintara have been saying for years. High time those risks are disclosed. https://t.co/ihXq3NWuVw
Had no idea (and was embarrassed to find out) my alma mater @Wesleyan still had legacy admissions. About damn time that ended. Wesleyan University Ends Legacy Admissions https://t.co/S6Hc8FeizG
