When biology pushes back
HBsAg suppression works but #HDV biology is more complex than expected. ALT flares with siRNA monotherapy suggest that cure may require targeting HBV/HDV ecosystem, not just one viral dependency

Statins may be more than cardiovascular drugs in MASLD. Our review explores a coherent liver-specific framework linking the mevalonate pathway to inflammation, fibrosis, carcinogenesis and portal hemodynamics.

🏛️ A historic moment for liver health.
Yesterday at the 79th World Health Assembly, Member States adopted the resolution "Steatotic liver disease: a missing piece in the global noncommunicable disease response" — the first time liver disease has ever been formally recognised within the global NCD agenda.
This is not a symbolic gesture. It is a mandate.
For too long, steatotic liver disease — affecting an estimated 1.5 billion people worldwide — has been absent from national health plans, NCD financing frameworks, and government accountability mechanisms. That changes now.
With this resolution, WHO Member States are called upon to: ✅ Integrate liver health into national NCD strategies ✅ Include liver health indicators in NCD monitoring frameworks ✅ Align health financing with integrated, prevention-centred care
As Professor Debbie Shawcross, EASL Secretary General, said at our WHA79 side event yesterday: "The NCD community has fought for decades to put prevention at the centre of health systems. Liver disease has been a missing piece. With this resolution, we have a mandate. Now we need governments to make it count."
The evidence is overwhelming. The EASL–Lancet Commission 2.0 estimates 780 preventable deaths per day and €55 billion in annual economic costs from liver disease in Europe alone.
The vote has been cast. Now the real work begins — and EASL will be there every step of the way.

🚨 Fatigue in IBD: More Than Just Feeling Tired
🔹 Fatigue 101
Persistent, not relieved by rest
Multifactorial: inflammation, sleep issues, anemia, psychological health, gut-brain axis
Impacts quality of life, work, adherence, and mental health
🩸@FrontGastro_BMJ:
Patients with IBD have a 57% increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) within 30 days post-discharge (OR 1.57).
🛌 Risk after non-surgical admissions even higher (OR 1.70).
💉Should extended thromboprophylaxis be routine for our IBD patients?
