When I first went to University of Nottingham as a 31 year old mother from a local council estate In my first year we did a course on Feminism I knew nothing about the academic subject & it felt disconnected to my life but there was a book on the reading list Misogynies by Joan Smith a series of case studies from courts where High Court Judges had only seen the humanity of the male perpetrators of violence towards women & the victims suffering were of little consequence to those Judges it was stark. But I thought the worst of those judgements were over until now - when day after day there is horrific offences being committed on women & girls & the male perpetrators of violence are still seen as victims. Enough. Whether it is Grooming Gangs, partner/ex partner violence, boys raping girls or threats to women that different ideologies & values brings - women & girls safety needs to come first. No more platitudes no more hand wringing.
