@itchdoctor@Jamequistlab@sokol_mdphd Thanks for the reply - we wondered about the requirement of the adaptive immune system and whether jawless vertebrate hagfish and lampreys itch.
@sokol_mdphd@Jamequistlab@itchdoctor I was wondering specifically about the role of itch neurons in the gut in response to helminths after your and @itchdoctor's presentations at @Midwinter_Immun - my knowledge of neurobiology is scant but I like your theory!
Here's the Research Briefing for our @NatImmunol paper on "dirty" mouse lung ILC2 - a short summary for a broad audience and a "behind the scenes" look at the project:

There's also a News & Views written by Dr. Umetsu: https://t.co/OQZKAoVkSs
How does natural microbial exposure influence ILC2 responses toward airway allergens? See our story in @NatImmunol to find out! This project is a collaboration between @Jamequistlab of @CFI_UMN and Kita lab of @MayoClinic

Pet store biome exposure impairs lung ILC2/eosinophilia vs i.n. allergens via incr. IFN signaling, but this waned with longer co-housing. Thus ILC2 respond dynamically to environmental cues @Katharine_Block@Jamequistlab

@NNJarjourPhD I agree that a mechanism shouldn't necessarily be a requirement for publication in a good journal - rigorous science describing an interesting phenomenon has value and opens the door for more research (and as you say, perhaps done by someone with better tools to tackle mechanism)
Kris @JamequistLab is an incredible scientist and such a thoughtful and kind person. I've been lucky to get to learn from her throughout my postdoc. Congratulations Dr. Hogquist! 🥳
@KSBurrack17 My post-bac lab mentor gave stethoscopes in fun colors to techs departing for med school and gave me (off to a PhD) a copy of "The Eighth Day of Creation: Makers of the Revolution in Biology"

@Caroline_Bartma @KSBurrack17 Everyone in the responses seems focused on lung type 2 responses, but there are skin allergy and food allergy models too (e.g. @CathyNagler uses peanut + cholera toxin to model peanut allergy)
@Caroline_Bartma @KSBurrack17 I use Alternaria alternata to induce an acute response in ILC2, and our collaborators have done a chronic model of HDM, Alt, Aspergillus, and OVA (Iijima et al 2014 J Immunol)
