The Knicks win their first championship in decades and somehow my fiancée and I end up on the injury report.

We had our Manhattan City Hall marriage ceremony booked months ago. Family is flying in from San Francisco and Chicago, including little kids, and both of our families planned to attend the ceremony and take photos afterward.

Four days before the wedding, we find out we’re going head to head with a Knicks championship parade, security zones, barricades, road closures, and hundreds of thousands of fans.

To be clear: we love the Knicks. We were at Game 3 of the Finals. We’re thrilled for the city.

But after months of planning, we had to scramble to find an officiant, move the ceremony to Prospect Park, and rework a day that both of our families had been planning around for months.

Our wedding season ended earlier than Boston’s.

Amazing problem for NYC to have. Tough week for it to be our wedding week.

And now we’ve somehow managed to miss both our City Hall wedding and the parade.

Mayor Mamdani and our beloved New York Knicks, if you’re reading this, surely there’s a clause in the CBA covering collateral wedding damage.
