This is a colourised photograph of Eliane Plewman.

Known by her codename 'Gaby', Eliane was an SOE operative during WW2 who parachuted into France in 1943.

She was a courier for the Monk circuit, carrying out acts of sabotage, including blowing up 30 German trains with her brother Albert Browne-Bartroli in January 1944.

She also transported messages, documents, and wireless equipment to various resistance groups near Marseille.

Captured by the Gestapo in March 1944 after her network was infiltrated by a double agent, she was tortured at Fresnes prison but refused to give up any information.

She was consequently transferred to Dachau concentration camp and was executed in September 1944, at the age of 26.
