Story Time:

In 2019, a blind gamer called Casey posted on Twitter that there were very few great games she could play on the school bus as a blind person.

I saw that tweet and sent her a code for my game Subwords via DM. I just hoped she might enjoy my little word puzzler.

What I didn’t know was that, from that point on, Casey followed my games.

Why? Because when playing Subwords, she never felt like she was using a custom solution or a lesser game. Instead, it felt like she could just play the same game as everyone else.

And that feeling of inclusion was incredibly important to her, especially during school and university.

How did I hear this story?

I heard it today from Casey. She is part of the jury for the “Gaming ohne Grenzen” accessibility award.

During the award ceremony, she told this story as part of her laudation and announced that my latest game, Art of Fauna, had won the award for Best Mobile Game.

I can't put into words how happy this story makes me. It shows that kindness is more important than anything else. And this is exactly why I love making my games and apps.
