@caranthirs and have arcs, emotions, catharsis, but they still dont get to directly tell a story in the legendarium (Mîms Klage excluded). Idk, maybe grasping, but feels kinda like the echo of the 'Eru only adopting them later', that they are excluded from retelling how the music plays out.
@caranthirs leaves this prior state to the Petty Dwarves, who are described as so much more physically and supposedly culturally foreign that they somehow break off or are exiled from Dwarves in general. After this shift, Dwarves are not completely objectified anymore, get to be protagonists
*emerges from forgetting to use this site lol* heyy if you like children of hurin and you like musicals, can I interest you guys in a watchparty for děti húrinovy (by czech tolkien musicals group Falešné Společenstvo) that I'm hosting? https://t.co/rQv9apsybp
@feanaaro i guess it's hard to say from our vantage point just how bad that midlife crisis would be once you're 2000 (like, does it scale up?) but there's certainly some coping happening yeah
@nulienna but it seems rather scattered and post facto hard to say how present it was so it could just be parallel evolution as well with the "english but gruff" and the "northern/vaguely mixing up norse and celtic visuals" vibe
@nulienna it seems like it might've predated jackson, like in dnd novels & games and stuff from the decades before there are scottish dwarfs but the trope definitely only gains steam with jackson's tolkien dwarves
@feanaaro yeah! your mileage may vary but i really had to trick my brain into giving a shit for quite a long time but now i crave exercise like it's candy or sth
@feanaaro once your brain's conditioned into liking sport you'll be able to get more ambitious/do things that dont excite you that automatically (at least it wad like that for me). if you start too intense/with sth that bores you to death, your brain will just understand it as unpleasant
@feanaaro at least for me the secret is to find a sport that engages you equally mentally physically and then do it at like 10-20% over your resting level until your brain is conditioned into wanting those endorphins regularly
@feanaaro i've played a fair bit of it in ttrpg form but not otherwise ^^ i enjoy the general vibe and vampires in general but the whole mass of the different games and rpgs and stuff is a little disorienting to me atm to be honest
