[THREAD] This #WomensHistoryMonth, let's not forget how many of our rights were only won in recent decades, and weren’t given by asking nicely and waiting.
We need to fight for our rights.
Here's are a few examples:
The lighting from the Vanity Fair Oscar Party Red Carpet looked so glowy and beautiful?! I think I know why! It's because they used a style of lighting that I've NEVER SEEN ANY OTHER RED CARPET USE! 🧵
I think a lot of writers/filmmakers end up surprised to find this. Here's the thing, getting a movie made is a huge accomplishment, but it really has nothing to do with the next job or if you're going to get paid to write/direct.
How the movie connects with people is EVERYTHING. I've had movies I wrote/produced play Tribeca and not open up a ton of doors. I've also seen a writer/director whose movie I produced had his entire life changed by a movie that DIDN'T get into the dream fests. But it connected in a way they rarely do.
Hell, I made a short that's opened more doors than any feature I've made. It's 100% about writing or making the thing that affects people. And that's insanely hard. But that's why we do it. And we keep doing it until one does connect and open those doors. Then we do it again. And there very well may be multiple day jobs in between. I've had years where I made a good living entirely as a writer/actor and plenty of years where I had to have a day job. That's the life, for better or worse.
Vote. Donate. Have genuine, curious conversations with people from both sides. Other than that, check out. Focus on real life. Use social media for things that bring joy. Mute. Don’t obsess over Trump. Go outside. Join a bowling league. It’s what I’ve been doing the last six months and it’s so much better.
If you’re outside of LA, here’s how to help. And please find some GoFundMe to share and repost and donate.
