This week we went on a leaf hunt in the river valley and then did some art activities inspired by leaves. We did leaf rubbings in our visual journals; abstract leaf art with sharpie, oil pastel, and watercolour; and self-portraits with leaf hair @bigrockbadger @fsd38

For our Forest Friday we did a Haiku Hike! Students first wrote what they saw, heard, and felt. Then they wrote a haiku using their observations. Students then got to do some crayon leaf rubbings. @bigrockbadger @fsd38

In the spirit of #TruthAndReconciliation we created this art project. This Heart Garden was made from 215 hearts in shades of orange to show our support to the indigenous community. Every child should feel safe and cared for @bigrockbadger @fsd38 #EveryChildMatters

This project incorporated ELA, science, art, and math outcomes. Students first completed the paint by sticker pictures which involved spatial awareness by matching the shapes and numbers. Students then researched about their animal and wrote a paragraph. @bigrockbadger @fsd38

We focused on applying our knowledge of perimeter to a practical example, floor plans! Students created their own floor plan for a dream house on grid paper. Students then calculated the perimeter for each of the rooms. @bigrockbadger @fsd38

Our read-to-self time today looked a little different with a visit from French Fry and Shadow! The Grade 1s let us borrow their ducks and they were so cute! We also tied it to our Animal Life Cycles unit in science. @bigrockbadger @fsd38

For Forest Friday we went on a nature scavenger hunt along the Sheep River. Students were able to find everything on the list except for wildflowers 🌲

Our #EarthDay2021 included: reading The Lorax & The Giving Tree and creating an extra page for the book on how the boy could’ve had a positive impact on the tree, an Earth Day Promises Mobil, & an Earth folding surprise by Art Hub for Kids @bigrockbadger @fsd38

Today in math we explored 3D shapes using paper nets and toothpicks and plasticine. Students identified the names of shapes and how many edges, vertices, and faces they have.

We took advantage of the amazing spring weather today and did some spring writing connected to their senses outside and then students drew something that reminded them of spring! @bigrockbadger @fsd38

These are our Tunisian sunsets! Students used watercolours to paint their sunsets and then traced a date palm tree and a camel on to construction paper. Did you know that part of the Sahara Desert goes through Tunisia? @bigrockbadger @fsd38

Did you know that the national tree of India is the banyan tree? As part of our study of India students created these abstract oil pastel banyan trees. @bigrockbadger @fsd38

Today for Forest Friday we went down to the river valley & read Trudy’s Rock Story by Trudy Spiller. This book is great for making connections to the land, nature, & our feelings. Students then looked for their own rock they could share their feelings with @bigrockbadger @fsd38
