FDA Approves First mRNA-Based Seasonal Flu Vaccine for Adults 50 and Older

The FDA has approved Moderna’s mFlusiva (mRNA-1010), making it the first seasonal influenza vaccine developed using messenger RNA (mRNA) technology to receive FDA approval. The decision marks a major milestone for mRNA vaccines beyond COVID-19.

The FDA granted approval for adults aged 50 to 64 and accelerated approval for those 65 and older, with Moderna required to complete a post-marketing study to confirm the vaccine’s clinical benefit in the older population.

Unlike conventional flu vaccines, which are often produced using egg-based manufacturing, mRNA technology allows vaccines to be developed and updated more rapidly.

The FDA’s decision also strengthens Moderna’s broader mRNA vaccine portfolio as the company continues developing a combination COVID-19 and influenza vaccine, which has not yet received regulatory approval.

Moderna expects mFlusiva to be available during the 2026–2027 influenza season.

Martin Gatti and Daniel Cervone were previously charged for alleged s*x crimes against students.

A third unnamed teacher was just let go following allegations.

Parents allege superintendent Jesse Wallace KNEW about the allegations but FAILED to take action.
