In order for students to have good overall wellness and mental health, they need to be eating a healthy balanced diet. The photos below are a guide for ALL people to use when thinking about eating healthy. This would be great to analyse in class! #EDUC4750#UonTeach
Here's an example of a S2 book called 'Why Should I eat Well', by Claire Llewellyn. It teaches kids the importance of learning about the foods they consume and why it is vital to obtain habits of eating #healthyfoods! #SDG3 📚
Do you know any other books promoting #healthyeating?
What a great find Ebony. Amazing resources for my unit of work. I will be incorporating one or more of these books. #UoNTeach#bushtucker #SDG#3 #EDUC4750
If you are following our bush tucker project #SDG12 this link will take you to 6 books by aboriginal authors on bush tucker that will engage all ages. The Koori Curriculum guides educators to embed Aboriginal perspectives in curriculum #UoNTeach#educ4750

Most Australian children are not eating enough veggies :( A good way to add more veggies to their day is through snacks!
Check out this guide with recipes you can try to get more veggies in during snacks at your early years service or at home.

@Molly12019084 I think chatting to other teachers that have taught the students may help. Some Aboriginal students may be taught that it is rude to give eye contact to adults & students with special needs may find it uncomfortable. I think you would know instinctively once you get to know them.
@Molly12019084 Friendships are so important. It gives anyone that sense of belonging and as though they are part of the community. I posted about a Ted talk where it was the longest study of happiness and it was all about the secure relationships they had in life and feeling like they belong.
@Molly12019084 Perfect for my unit of work!! Where we will be doing lots of learning about what is a healthy always food and what is a sometimes food and what is an occasional food. Such a great idea to@link to the canteen too.
@missravenswood1 I love the idea of brain breaks....lots of different things to do for a brain break and I would make sure students know at this time they can talk to you about any concerns. There are lots of brain break ideas on the DEC website. I’ll post link if I find.
Breaking the veg-eating record! Awesome initiative by HFA! Evaluations have shown “the event has ongoing positive impacts on fruit and vegetable consumption at school as well as an increase in students talking positively about fruit and vegetables”. 🙌🏼🥦🥕 #uonteach#educ4750
@MissBradford01 @Uni_Newcastle I haven’t heard of the bags to benches initiative, it sounds like a great idea! In our household we are currently taking part in the Curby trial. It’s where all the soft plastics are placed into provided yellow bags and then sealed and placed in the yellow lid bin.
