Councils are paying millions of euro every month to private landlords and investors in rent for thousands of properties for social housing, despite owning more than 3,500 vacant homes.

'Private leasing is the most expensive way to deliver social housing'
The practice has been labelled a waste of taxpayers’ money by Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin, who said it raises questions about how the State manages its housing stock.
While some leasing arrangements allow councils or approved housing bodies (AHBs) to eventually own homes, more than 10,000 are being leased under government schemes where it is expected they would be returned to their owners once the leases end.
New data that Mr Ó Broin obtained from the Local Government Management Agency, which works with local authorities to support the services they deliver, shows it took councils 33 weeks on average last year to bring vacant homes back into use.

Someone in a closed room in Mexico City on 20–22 May chose to stay silent. For three weeks, a private remark by the EU’s foreign-policy chief — comparing Israel’s treatment of Palestinians to apartheid — went nowhere. Then, the exact week France & Germany circulate a paper to dismantle her diplomatic service and four days before foreign ministers convene in Luxembourg: it surfaces. Not as recognition of a legal reality. As a scandal about her. That is not a leak. That is a decision. And the framing that travels — “unacceptable, not EU policy” — tells you whose decision it was. 🧵

@maryharryheff Author exaggerates the Sligo site as a 5,000-man center costing €30M to build; actual Benbulben and Milligan Courts are former student housing with ~540 beds run by Brava Capital, which has received nearly €30M in total payments.
No wonder no questions on the 15 year old girl Epstein sent to Ireland for 'politicians and celebrities'.
All grand, lads.
Just dont ask.
