36Kr is a well established business news outlet in China. It’s one of the better-known tech/business media platforms and is often compared to TechCrunch, so this isn’t just some random gaming forum or fandom article.

That’s why their latest piece is interesting to me.

They’re not framing the Valko situation as “CN players hated him so Papergames removed him.” like we’ve seen in previous articles. They EXPLICITLY acknowledge that cancelling him upset another group of players, including people who wanted him or were neutral, and that many of those players spent July protesting, boycotting or considering quitting (this is us xD). They mention the underwhelming performance of Rafayel’s 4th Myth.

They also point out that the players who were angry before the cancellation were not necessarily won back either.

I’m not treating 36Kr’s interpretation as a huge thing that means CN public opinion on Valko has finally flipped, because the section on LADS isn’t the main focus necessarily (from what I was able to understand based on machine translation), but I do think the FRAMING SHIFT matters. A fairly well-recognised CN business outlet is now acknowledging that cancelling Valko created its own commercially relevant group of dissatisfied players (us!! We’re famous 😆)

Considering how one-sided a lot of the earlier CN media coverage was, this feels like a massive step in the right direction!!
