Why does beauty matter?
Because without it, we forget how to feel.
We stop noticing. We stop caring.
Beauty is not decoration.
It’s defiance—against despair, distraction, and decay…

Finished reading seasoned journalist Mike Graham's new book 'Fake News' today. Short but to the point and a real exposé of what's happening behind the doors of mainstream media companies and their overly close links with various governments during and since the Blair years.

A Million Roses

A little house, a canvas on the wall,
Nothing else, nothing else at all.
A poor young painter fell in love
With an actress he adored.
He dreamed of giving her his roses,
Roses for the one he loved.
And one day he bought
Every rose in town.
**A million roses,**
I’ll give them all to you,
To you, to you, to you.
The square outside your window,
The square that you can see,
I’ll cover all in crimson roses,
As far as you can see…
One morning she looked out her window,
And saw a sea of scarlet roses.
She thought some rich man
Had played a foolish game,
And laughed at such a strange surprise.
The poor young painter sold his house,
Sold every canvas that he had.
He spent it all on roses,
Every last thing he owned.
And underneath her window,
He stood there watching her.
**A million roses,**
You can see them all,
You see them, see them, see them.
The square outside your window,
The square that you can see,
Has turned into a crimson sea,
A crimson sea of roses…
And that was all their meeting was.
The actress left for another town.
That sea of scarlet roses
Became a memory
Of her beautiful, shining life.
The poor young painter
Lived his lonely days,
But the memory of those roses
Never left his heart.
**A million roses,**
I’ll give them all to you,
To you, to you, to you.
The square outside your window,
The square that you can see,
I’ll cover all in crimson roses,
As far as you can see…

Portrait of Chess Players by Marcel Duchamp, 1887-1968, a French American painter, sculptor, chess player & writer
“While all artists are not chess players, all chess players are artists … The chess pieces are the block alphabet which shapes thoughts; and these thoughts, although making a visual design on the chessboard, express their beauty abstractly, like a poem.”
