IAS Officer Gargi Jain's 'Collector in Classroom' Initiative Cuts Tribal Girls' Dropout by 60% in Gujarat's Chhota Udepur
From ‘Madam Collector’ to ‘Collector Didi’, How Gargi Jain Is Keeping Tribal Girls in School
When Gargi Jain an IAS officer of 2015 batch of Gujarat cadre took charge of Chhota Udepur in 2025, she began walking into tribal girls' schools every week instead of waiting for students to reach her office. What started as informal conversations became Collector in Classroom, a mentoring programme now reaching over 750 girls. A year on, the district's girls' dropout rate has fallen by nearly 60%.
A story to be retold elsewhere too...

Why are we scared of a bare shoulder?
Shobhana Samarth as #Sita in the 1937 film Bharat Milaap and Sai Pallavi as Sita in the 2026 Ramayana.
Almost a century later but the costuming says it all…

Independence. Liberty. Azadi…
Azadi from poverty
Azadi from corruption
Azadi from discrimination
Azadi from injustice
Azadi from inequality
Azadi from fear
Azadi from apathy
Azadi from ignorance
Azadi from violence
Azadi from hate

“Isse kuch fark padega?” queried a rickshaw wala.
It struck hard. If we need fark /change, we have to voice it.
If we need justice, we have to voice it.
If we want reforms, we have to voice it.
And if not open to dialogue, the voice is on the streets…Loud. #CJPprotest
FYI,most girls, (if not all girls 🙄) do foot their bills be it for coffee or biryani as they well know that most dating men - (if not all men 🙄 )- tend to mistake paying the bill for buying consent. Sorry it’s not coffee, tea, B AND me.

‘To,
All the single mothers
And all those mothers
Who have single-handedly brought up their child/children’
#BhimasWife is not about a wife but a mother who raised her child on her own to lose him to war, death and social honour.
It’s an ode to all mothers.

Amazing that Sudha Murti ji recollected and sang from her memory a traditional #मराठी हातगा/भोंडला song. Wonder how many of GenZ are taught these songs by their mother and family. Languages are not merely channels of communication, languages are store houses of culture.
It is another matter that the subtitles in the clip wrongly mention हातगा as drum ! 😀

The Last Moghul. The last of the best….💔
Her two songs - the first music I heard : both iconic yet smashing stereotypes even then in my child mind …
Her blood-stirring ‘Dum Maro Dum’ was a chant. And then the naughty, catchy ‘Bugadi maajhi’ Timeless….
Today is the darkest day for #transgender rights in India with the draconian #TransgenderBill2026.
While we hail such stories like Vriksharaj’s , reality has taken an ugly turn with a bill threatening their very identity, the indignity to have to prove what they are….
My #Ramayana series. #Ram may not be the protagonist but very much present in self, soul and spirit. And how each of these women interact and react to him: Urmila, Ahalya, Tara and yes Surpanakha as well.

“Before Draupadi, there was #Hidimbi. The first Pandava daughter-in-law: a status denied to her through her life, the forgotten wife in the Mahabharata. Why was her story never told? #BhimasWife is a powerful reimagining telling her story of love, betrayal & strength.”
