It’s the first day of #Pride Month, so a reminder😑

Being an ally isn’t wearing a rainbow for 30 days and then telling #LGBTQ+ people to be quiet when they speak about their experiences.

It’s not deciding which voices are acceptable and which aren’t.

It’s not speaking over people, dismissing them, mocking them, or telling them to “get over it” when they talk about discrimination, exclusion or harm.

An ally doesn’t need to agree with every single person. But they do need to respect their humanity.

Being an ally is about showing up consistently, not just when it’s easy or popular. It’s about being willing to listen, learn and reflect, even when the conversations are challenging.

Real allyship is listening when it’s uncomfortable. It’s also not inserting yourself into a community purely for your own benefit, recognition or platform.

The best allies are the ones who speak up when something isn’t right, even when doing so is inconvenient or unpopular. They don’t disappear when things get difficult.

It’s standing beside people when it’s easier to walk away.

It’s recognising that Pride was never about making everyone comfortable. It was about making sure people could exist openly, safely and unapologetically.

If your support disappears the moment a queer person says something you don’t like, it wasn’t support. It was conditional acceptance.

And those are not the same thing.

Being an ally isn’t something you call yourself.

It’s something you prove through your actions. Every day.
