“And one day, when they have punished you enough, they'll serve you salmon and potato salad, make speeches, give you a medal. Just remember, it wont be for you, it will be for them.”
#Oppenheimer
So tired of having to explain to men that Ken is living in the REVERSE world to us. You’re mad? At the Ken/Barbie dynamic? Situation?
Maybe look at what you would say if the roles were reversed.
Oh. Wait.
It’s weird that we do this thing every few years where a major movie targeted first & foremost at women opens above/around $150 million (TWILIGHT, THE HUNGER GAMES, CAPTAIN MARVEL, and now #Barbie, etc.) and people once again act surprised that girls like going to the movies too
the way this movie goes out of its way and EXPLICITLY states the way men are treated in barbieland is a commentary on the way ACTUAL REAL WOMEN are treated on the ACTUAL REAL WORLD, and y'all stupid ignorant motherfuckers still ain't getting it
How are people coming to the conclusion that Barbie is an anti-man film? It literally goes out of its way to show how toxic masculinity is damaging for men and that they don't need to be what society expects of them. This film literally has a positive message for men
#Barbie accomplishments:
• Biggest domestic opening of 2023
• Biggest opening ever for a female director
• Biggest opening for a movie based on a toy
• Biggest opening ever for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling
• Biggest opening weekend for a movie that isn't a sequel, remake, or superhero movie
For people comparing that #BarbieMovie is “anti-men” there is a whole second storyline and song surrounding co-lead Ryan Gosling about how Ken doesn’t feel good enough and lacks an identity and purpose. It’s a universal tale on the ridiculous expectations set for humanity.
Ms. Marvel writer A.C. Bradley says Marvel and Disney did not pay her script fees despite being credited on three episodes of the Disney+ series.
