@neilhimself The librarians at NYPL main & music branches were always amazing. One helped find specific info in a very rare book, and it took him five minutes, like he knew where it was all along. I was in awe, he shrugged and said it was his job. They are all scarily good at what they do.
They did this all through my years at Catholic school (because Jesus would’ve wanted that 🙄). The only time I ever got anything was after I was away for a week after a complete mental breakdown and spending time in the psyche ward. A teacher sent it to me.
Do I deal with vulnerable, unvaccinated populations daily? Yup. The library is a place for all. I knew that going into this profession. I did not sign up to have unmasked people yell at me when I ask them to put on their mask for the fourth time this shift.
My own mother (who was sitting in the car next to me while I complained about work) was shocked when I reminded her that, while I've been working consistently through the pandemic, I am not considered a front-line worker.
Here are the most borrowed books of 2021. We are so happy to see that the children in Mississauga continued to read in huge numbers in such a difficult year. A big congratulations to @wimpykid, whose books grabbed 3 of the top 5 positions.
I'm handing this to the next person who calls my job easy.
