When I met Josephine Kankesha, a widow of the Genocide against the Tutsi whose husband and children were killed 12 years ago, I asked her about her message regarding genocide denial. She burst into tears and said she experiences it as a form of torture because deniers claim that she never had children.
Kankesha from Cyanika/Gikongoro also survived the massacre of Tutsi when she was a young girl in primary school in 1963, as well as the killings of Tutsi in 1973.
Ultimately, the genocide of 1994 took her husband and children.

My favorite part of resurrection is when they went back and didn’t find Jesus where they left him!! Don’t let NOBODY find you where they left you. Elevate! He got up! You can too! Nothing is too hard for my God!
07th April 1994 - Their last moments were filled with fear. They saw it coming. The whistles, the weapons, the warnings - The world didn’t stop it. We remember, so that it never happens again! #Kwibuka31
´There is a chance, a significant chance that if you stand up and fight…you will live, and you’ll have lived a dignified life that you deserve, that anybody else deserves.’ - H.E Paul Kagame

Listening to survivors, I often have one disorienting moment where I can’t grasp how the person survived—death seemed so certain. And then they say, “Nuko Inkotanyi ziraza.”
Happy Liberation day mon petit pays, the country that survived. May the 4th be with us 🫶🏾✊🏾 #Kwibohora30
My beautiful mother was massacred 30 years ago today, April 10th 1994 during the Genocide against the Tutsi.
As the last born, I did carry for the longest time the weight of unspoken love and missed moments, yearning for the embrace of a mother I never knew. Gone too soon 💔
