“Freedom comes at a price, and in Iran, the people pay a particularly bloody price every day.”

Austrian lawmaker Andreas Minnich urges people to gather in Frankfurt, Germany, on Saturday, Nov. 7, in solidarity with Iranians and their 47-year struggle for freedom under the Islamic Republic.
Minnich, deputy chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Austria’s lower house of parliament and foreign affairs spokesperson for the Austrian People’s Party, says two more young people were executed on the day he recorded his message.
His appeal comes ahead of a ceremony at Frankfurt’s St. Paul’s Church, where Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi will accept the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom’s 2026 Freedom Prize on behalf of the Iranian people. The award honors their courage and commitment to freedom, civil rights and democracy.

Hi, I'm Yasmine Pahlavi.
Something deeply troubling is happening in Germany, and it should concern every person who values freedom.
This Saturday, my husband, Reza Pahlavi, will be in Frankfurt to accept the Freedom Prize on behalf of the people of Iran.
And yet, the Frankfurt police have officially informed us that we cannot attend or speak at the rally, and that they will prevent us from doing so.
Why?
Not because we have broken any laws.
Not because we pose a danger to anyone.
But because the Islamic Republic has threatened violence against us.
The police have told us that if my husband attends, the Islamic Republic may retaliate by targeting innocent people in the crowd.
Think about that.
A foreign regime threatens violence against innocent civilians, and the response is to silence the very people it wants to intimidate.
Of course, protecting the lives of rally participants is essential. And I want to make something very clear: We have enormous respect and gratitude for the men and women in law enforcement who risk their lives every day to protect others.
But respecting law enforcement does not mean we cannot question a decision that appears to be driven by political considerations rather than security alone.
Because the fundamental question remains: Since when do threats of terrorism determine who is allowed to speak in a democracy?
This is precisely what it means to give in to terrorist threats.
In Germany. In a democracy. In a country where freedom of expression is a fundamental right.
If threats of violence are enough to silence us today, who will be silenced tomorrow?
The Islamic Republic has spent decades suppressing the voices of the Iranian people. Are we now going to allow its threats to dictate who can speak on German soil?
The Islamic Republic has spent decades suppressing the voices of the Iranian people. Are we now going to allow its threats to dictate who can speak on German soil?
The Iranian people cannot freely assemble or speak without fear of persecution in their own country. That is precisely why our voices must be heard here.
We cannot allow the Islamic Republic to export its repression to Europe.
A democracy must protect its people from threats of violence, not surrender their freedoms to those making the threats.

Nov. 5 - Cristiano Ronaldo has called time on his international career, announcing his retirement from Portugal duty after 23 years.
In a five-minute video posted to social media on Tuesday, the 41-year-old said farewell to the nation he represented since August 2003. He leaves as the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football, with 146 goals in 234 games.
Speaking directly to the Portuguese people, Ronaldo said the day had come to give back the shirt and captain’s armband “that belongs to all of us.” Looking back on his journey, he said he remembers the people more than the records, including immigrants who felt “a little closer to Portugal” for 90 minutes. “Football is about people,” he said.
