What It Enables President Trump (and Future Presidents) to Do

Just hours before Thomas Crooks opened fire, he flew a drone for nearly 9 minutes — from 3:51 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. — right over the rally site.. during the EXACT period the counter-drone surveillance efforts were down.

Thomas Crooks drone traveled 471 yards from the stage and its camera clearly viewed both the stage where Trump would speak and the AGR building roof where Crooks would later shoot from.

The Secret Service never detected it. Their counter-drone system was broken for hours.

The only person operating it was an under-trained agent from Trump’s own protective detail who had received just 20 minutes of informal training and didn’t even know he was supposed to test the system beforehand.

When the system failed, he couldn’t fix it. Vendor help was slow because it was a weekend.

The system was finally repaired at 4:20 p.m. — after Crooks had already finished his scouting flight — by borrowing a cable from President Trump’s own audiovisual team.

This was a massive missed opportunity to spot the shooter before he even arrived.
