Turns out swinging a dog leash with keys at the end in a menacing fashion + wearing headphones is not enough to stop a random male from approaching and trying to speak with me.
I felt so much safer walking around NYC as a single woman than I do walking around Kansas City alone.
Our house has a gnat problem. I have a fly/gnat phobia. They overstimulate my neurospicy brain (unpredictable! buzzy! tickly! no respect for personal space!)
Fiancé just brought me apple slices in a lidded container so I can eat at my own pace w/o gnat contamination. 🥹 I CRIED.
Today I yelled at my cat to please shut up. I was camera-off and muted at the very start of a division-wide Teams call with the CEO.
Except when I looked up
I learned
I was UNmuted, mic on. 🗣️
I would like to pass away now, thank you 💀 goodbye
My nervous system is so out of whack that I can't get through a day without a meltdown. Just now realizing I've been in fight-or-flight for most my life. I default to defensiveness, have a miniscule frustration tolerance & wild mood swings. Feels like it will never get better.
Ralph Paul Yarl was picking up his two siblings. He went to the wrong house in Kansas City, Missouri. The White man who opened the door did not see a lost 16-year-old boy. He saw a threat. Shot Ralph, twice. Once in the head to kill him. Somehow Ralph survived. 1/
He went on: "I believe I have never seen such intelligent cats as these before. They are full of the nicest discriminations."
Found my joy!

My therapist instructed me to "find joy" in daily life, on the weekends, etc. Well, I'm pleased to say that today's dose of joy was hidden deep in JSTOR.
I've discovered that Mark Twain was really into cats. So much so that, during the summer months, he'd rent cats to hang with.
During one May, he rented three kittens, two of whom were identical. "Since the cats are precisely alike, and can't be told apart by any of us, they do not need two names, so they have but one between them. We call both of them Sackcloth, and we call the gray one Ashes."
