This is going to piss a lot of people off but it’s the truth…
A huge percentage of the nutrition advice you see from coaches (and even nutritionists) on social media, comes from people who are suffering from severe eating disorders.
All of the fear mongering around foods you should “never eat,” and much of the scare tactics around how bad/dangerous/fattening various foods are, stems from their disordered relationship with food that they are projecting onto you.
Eating disorders are incredibly scary and not to be made fun of or taken lightly.
Which is why I think it’s important to bring this up.
Many of the people who become professionals in nutrition, often struggle with their own internal demons related to food. Which is one of the reasons they pursue that field to begin with.
No, I’m not saying “all nutritionists” or “all dietitians” or “all nutrition coaches.”
But I am saying, “many of them.”
And an easy way to tell is by who is scaring the shit out of you for eating certain foods.
Food fear is not a healthy behavior. In fact, it’s a disordered eating behavior in and of itself.
So.
Keep that in mind the next time you see someone (even with credentials) trying to scare you away from eating a certain food without any other context.
You raised yourself.
You were alone to fix your problems, had adult responsibilities since you can remember, and felt pressure to keep it all together.
