@WIDA_UW@ValentinaESL I want to attend #wida2024 because I have so many more things to learn about ML students. This year we did a hybrid of pull out groups and co-teaching and next year it will be full co-teaching. I’d love to learn from the experts! 🧠 ✨
EL teachers tell me they teach newcomers & #MLs in broom closets or under the staircase bc they are told "there's no room anywhere else."
What messages are we sending to students, families, colleagues, & everyone about WHAT & WHO we value?
Asking for 5 mil of my friends. Thx
The first 10 minutes after recess are what I call “triage time”
Water for the thirsty, bandaids for the fallen, mediation for the grumpy, breathing for the rambunctious
We don't "give" students a voice. They already have a voice - and thoughts, ideas, solutions, passions, etc.
We want to AMPLIFY their voice, ELEVATE their voice. We can help them find their own outlets and platforms to share if they choose.
Pass. Them. The. Mic.
“Turn and Talk” in the lower (and maybe upper) grades often ends up being two Ss talking AT each other. To encourage real engagement/listening, I’m moving to “Turn and Learn”: “Turn and learn your partner’s thoughts on ___”. Then asking Ss to share out what they learned.
You OWN IT when LEARNING MATTERS to YOU:
• What is your goal?
• Why is it important to you?
• Where are you at?
• What dispositions do you need to activate?
• What will you do when you get stuck?
• How will you know you are successful?
@KimDeSpain3 @edutopia Whoa… this was definitely not that. He just walked around and said good morning to each teacher personally as they were prepping for the day. He usually then went out and greeted the kids too. So sorry that you have so many meetings 😞
