As we get older, it is inevitable that we'll see childhood favourites rebooted into new cartoons, movies and toys. The new version of #SheRa has really divided fan opinion, and I'd like to spend a moment to talk about why I believe that is. (Thread)
@ShawnNOrlando Nah I showed this to my little cousins last night and they said it was tragic and sad.
The art is cute. Wish there was more of it and less dry ass bushes. Lmao
@emperor_kane@KevinLamb74 I completely agree. I never liked that, for that reason. It felt exploitative, but they're selling it as progressive. People deserve better representation.
@intrascend@TheMobRules73 To be honest, it sounds like you were persuaded by a bombardment of idiots encouraging you to hate a movie before it even came out. I've seen plenty of people saying it doesn't interest them, which is fine, but you seem intent on hating the fact that other people love it?
@PointmanC That wouldn't have been quite so bad if Teela hadn't also been turned into a completely different, unpleasant character, both in terms of looks as well as personality.
If there's one thing I've been pretty consistent with since my time on X/Twitter it's my love for He-Man and She-Ra. ๐ This movie brought all the crazies out of the woodwork! They didn't like the film, as is their right, and they're determined to impose their will upon others.
@ThomasConnorsJr@TribalSpaceman@desert_starr_57 The director and cast ran their mouths and made the usual ID politics talking points, leading people to believe it was another bait and switch situation like the Kevin Smith mess, but it's actually a fun, earnest movie. Box office success or failure isn'tan indicator of quality.
A "serious" he-man?
It'd be like wearing a tuxedo to McDonald's.
A lot of us grew up loving these characters exactly because they were over the top, heroic, and fun. We donโt need to see them get turned into overly serious grim revenge stories or watch the heroes we loved get killed off. Thatโs not what most of us came for. Making something cynical and hateful, does not equal making it "serious and mature."
@Redpyramid9 Kevin lost me when he used his platform and privilege to incite targeted harassment against a pair of YouTubers for the crime of reporting on plot rumours which turned out to be true. Revelation turned the beloved Teela into an entitled asshole with a clichรฉd Netflix haircut.
