1.
On my arrival from the United Kingdom, I joined His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, on behalf of the House of Representatives, for the signing of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act, 2026 into law.
This landmark legislation provides a robust legal framework for digital identity and verification. It also paves the way for the implementation of the National Public Key Infrastructure (nPKI), which will enable secure electronic transactions, digital signatures, authentication, and enhanced cybersecurity across government and private sector services.
I commend the Director-General, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, under whose leadership this milestone has been achieved. Prior to this, the Commission significantly scaled up NIN enrolment, expanded access through Front-End Partners, strengthened data security, introduced self-service platforms, and extended services to underserved communities and Nigerians in the diaspora.
As we celebrate the enactment of this law, we are reminded that legislation alone does not transform a nation. More important is our collective commitment to its faithful and effective implementation.
We envision a Nigeria where every citizen has a trusted digital identity, government services are seamless, businesses transact securely, fraud is minimised, and digital trust drives innovation, economic growth, and national prosperity.
