‘Haji Biryani’ in Jhargram ordered shut: Action taken over allegations of using unsafe food colouring

The chief medical officer of the Health Department of West Bengal has ordered the closure of Haji Biryani, a popular biryani outlet in Jhargram town, following an inspection. While preparing the food, the shop was allegedly using food colouring deemed unsafe for human consumption. Officials warned that prolonged consumption of such substances could pose serious health risks to the general public.

The shopkeeper had been warned previously and instructed to prepare food in strict compliance with food safety regulations. The directives were disregarded, and the practice of adding unapproved colouring ingredients to food for sale continued unabated.

Upon discovering various irregularities during the inspection, officials ordered the immediate, albeit temporary, closure of the shop.

The Health Department has affirmed that such inspection drives will continue in the future to uphold food quality standards and safeguard the health of the general public.
