A response to the new Alzheimers Society
Kate Lee, Alzheimer’s Society CEO, said: "Our new advert ‘The Long Goodbye’ tells the unvarnished truth about the devastation caused by dementia. … https://t.co/rsWWR0w5oJ
1/4 @alzheimerssoc campaign “The Long goodbye” demonstrates that fund raising awareness is more important to Senior Management than representing dementia in all its forms, in a sensitive, balanced, and truthfully realistic way. This campaign falls short on each of these counts.
To anyone emotionally affected by the awful @alzheimerssoc advert; I introduce my great Grandma, 96 years young and living with #Dementia. Yes at times she forgets and gets anxious, down, frustrated etc. But she very much lives and we haven’t ‘lost’ her. No eulogy here thanks 😊
Friday was a good day! @TLAP1 Tim, @martindavidwal2 and I visited a care home to run a workshop on values with people who lived there, the bonus of fish and chips and dessert was nice too! 🍰
Looking forward to beginning to share our breakout sessions, with a range of topics from rural and communities, to race, faith and dementia. We are being supported in this by some excellent speakers -hats off to everyone involved 🤠

We know it's hard when unplanned medical admissions occur for anyone, but for people living with dementia (& carers) this can truly hit another level. Hear from Dave who talks about that, and the importance of having an emergency care plan in place-https://t.co/B8aLgpkwWF
Hospital project next steps - share your thoughts on:
🟢How can people with dementia find out about the one page doc?
🟢How do we raise awareness with emergency services?

@ZoeHarris_FRSA Were also looking at virtual wards after the summer and the potential they have to support people outside of hospital and hopefully help keep people at home - we'll be doing a DCAN event exploring in Sept/Oct most likely so I can share details when we have that firmed up
Great to see this document now available! If you are a person with #dementia, or you support someone who has dementia this is a great resource to help ensure you receive person centred care and support that understands your needs and wishes if you have to go into hospital💙
We know that when someone living with #dementia requires emergency hospitalisation it can be distressing.
So we co-designed a document for people to take to hospital to facilitate personalised care and support in busy hospital departments.

@ZoeHarris_FRSA Hi Zoe, thanks for your response! Yes a definite next phase of work is looking and who and how we can increase awareness and uptake of these documents! If you'd like to be involved in the conversation let me know and we can link up?
Some stark warnings in here, including around the enormous scale of the impact of dementia on people’s lives and the healthcare system. Yet another reason why decision makers need to prioritise it.
