I remember asking a 3rd year teacher what she’s learned as a new teacher. Her advice: 1) Pay attention to the needs of your kids… not just the standards. 2) Talk through behavior issues… don’t JUST assign consequences. 3) Rely on your colleagues. 4) Take things in stride.

Every time we walk into the school, we have the opportunity to be a bright spot in a student’s day. There’s a lot that we can’t control and there are days that we may feel inadequate… but we can always be the reason that a kid smiles.
