Barcelona RQ
Due to medical concerns, I was forced to drop in round 6 with a 3-2 record from the Barcelona RQ. This is a call to action for Riot to, at all costs, do better for future RQ venue choices.
First of all, a lot of credit is due to the judges and event staff for being as accommodating and helpful as possible and helping to address the medical issue, which was heat exhaustion. Thank you.
Many have already spoken to it, but the venue and heat issues at the Barcelona RQ this weekend have been unacceptable. I implore Riot to not make this mistake again — summer events need adequate cooling and space. The vending machine was not working and there was no other way to purchase an electrolyte drink in the venue. The medical area did not have electrolytes available either (thank you to the judge that found some electrolyte tablets for me though). I probably had the worst outcome but I know others were also facing many physical, medical issues due to the heat.
My full experience:
In the middle of round 4 I felt my hands and fingers muscle cramping frequently. I had a lot of time available after the round and went to the medical area. They checked out my issue and applied a hot/cold spray on my arms. Before my next round I bought an orange juice at the store inside the venue and water and drank both, but was unable to find any source of electrolytes.
I let my round 5 opponent know the issues I was having. Thank you to him for being super understanding of my issues. After game 1, a judge gave us a time extension for me to try to get some more food and hydration. I got more water, ate an apple, and got a Pringles to munch on in between. Was mainly hoping to find some bananas and/or Powerade. I struggled thru the match and after we finished I was taken to the medical area in a wheelchair to attempt to cool off and get more attention.
I expected someone to run into these issues, but never did I think it would be me. I had 2 Snickers bars and a Powerade at the start of my day. In between rounds I drank another 4 cups of water, and snacked on some Haribo gummies. After round 4, I found more food and drink.
My blood pressure and blood sugar/insulin were good. I don’t have diabetes or any prior health issues. I slept 7-8 hours last night. Nothing like this has ever happened before. I was not able to recover in time while getting medical attention and had to drop against my round 6 opponent. I felt like I did almost everything I could to avoid this problem. I had to hold back tears knowing this is how my event was going to end. Thank you again to everyone who helped me through this bizarre experience.
TL;DR heat exhaustion from Barcelona RQ venue; Riot must not allow this problem to ever surface again
@JuiceGGEZ Me and my teammate @Kedjius are running pyke/zed, will drop list after Sunday and hopefully surprise you price wise as our decks aren't the most common versions of the legends! Stay tuned :)
Respectfully, this is the second time in a row that Leblanc players have prepared for a major tournament with the understanding that a certain ruling would stand, and the second time that that ruling was changed just DAYS before the event with no consideration of the impact.
Came to PPG Dallas to play in the Rush of Ikorr 5K and decided to play in the 25K Riftbound Showdown as a side quest. Walked out with Best of Draven and a top 2 split in Rush of Ikorr!
@LockserUwU The deck doesn't play consult because you can't risk your opponent overtaking you and you fully loosing your tempo for a draw 2, thus it lacks draw, so you play all draw battlefields with arena's being pseudo draw because it ends the game faster, meaning you need less cards drawn
