@RutgersAltRoute A5: assessments with both clear standards and a clear rubric are important, and something I didn’t do earlier in the year and I regret. Over the past 3 months I’ve incorporated mindset-conscious assessments more and I’ve been happier with the results. #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A4: feed-back can be as simple as encouragement, but constructive feedback through rubrics or isolating certain skills is also important. A student weak in “speaking”is a vague description, instead I can difficulties with “listening” or “target language” #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A3:I seek out the students who may be further behind and let them know it’s okay to make mistakes. My goal is to help them form a strong knowledge base, so as long as they reach that and are confident with concepts they do know, I consider that a success. #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A2: since confidence is the key to growth mindset in my classroom, I mostly rely on positive feedback. Whenever a student succeeds with a task difficult for them, I applaud their effort or write home to parents #AltRtEd#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute As a language teacher, the biggest factor in my student’s mindset is confidence. It can be a challenge for students to jump on board and trust in their speaking abilities, but once they gain that confidence they grow exponentially #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A5 - I think communication with parents is key - while I call home when there are issues, I also call home when students are succeeding in class to encourage the family and student and to make deeper connections
@RutgersAltRoute A4 - in my classroom I have desks with wheels which have been great for activities, but also for students who need to move around or find some new scenery in the class. They can move around when they need to
@RutgersAltRoute A3 In #worldlanguage classrooms we have plenty of active activities for students. This week I'm doing a grammar Olympics which includes games like relay races that get students up and active
@RutgersAltRoute A2 - Sometimes it can be difficult for students to speak up, so I try to make a classroom that is open and accepting where students feel empowered to either speak up or to come speak to me after class. @altrted #sped
@RutgersAltRoute The biggest challenge has been realizing that not every student learns at the same pace. However, there is an extra sense of satisfaction when students who struggle at first are able to grasp difficult concepts #altrted#altrted #altrted#SpEd
