We’re busy dealing with literally thousands of 1/4” reel tapes, with plenty of machines to play them on. But we also have a sprinkling of 1/2” and 1" tapes.
If you know of anyone selling (or considering selling) a 1/2" or 1" tape machine please contact us - our DMs are open.
And thirdly, a big thanks to the @HeritageFundUK & lottery players for supporting the project, providing the funding & for recognising the importance of the UK's sound heritage.
#ThanksToYou
3/3
A day for a few 'thank yous'.
Firstly to @TheKeepArchives, Brighton, for being our host & home over the last three years. A great place to work with fab colleagues. If you're not following them yet, well you could do so now.
Short🧵1/3
Secondly, thank you to @BLSoundHeritage for developing & leading the national Unlocking Our Sound Heritage Project. It's been an ambitious project, but what's the point of doing something if you don't think big. Again, give them a follow.

What to do for our last #TapeboxTuesday?
We decided on an EMI classic, one of the final tapes in the studio as we tidy up. Comes complete with space to index your recordings - good advice - & a guide to editing & jointing. Hope you've enjoyed the box designs, we certainly have.
It seems appropriate to post another of our project #Highlights on a damp foggy day in Brighton. In this blog, Angela Bachini wrote about the ghosts she came across while cataloguing our sound collections.

Something new for us: six 78rpm records deposited @TheKeep with recordings from the BBC Home Service series Works Wonders, recorded in a tool factory in Hove, 20th April 1949. Looks like Iris & Mr Michael were busy that day performing to their colleagues.
#SaveOurSounds
Working with artist Becky Edmunds to explore how archival recordings can be used to create new ways of listening to the archive is one of our top project #Highlights. Stick your headphones in & have a listen.

Rights Officer, @henryrowsellArt, has cleared 758 recordings for listening online via a new @britishlibrary sounds website, launching summer 2022. Public access to archival material is central to what we do, so this is a real project #Highlight.
Do you work in a UK GLAM institution with collections of sound recordings? The British Library would love to know how things are with you. Please complete our <5 min multiple choice survey https://t.co/X1jAGUP7gv Thank you!
One of our project #Highlights has been the wide range of volunteers, each bringing a new perspective & interest in the collections. In her 2019 blog, Nancy Jones talked about listening to the stories of Lewes & the Grand National horse, Shaun Spadah.

#TapeboxTuesday has become a regular feature in our Twitter week & for today's #Highlight we are celebrating the archive of drummer Raye Du Val (UTK004/AMS6605) held @TheKeepArchives. Raye decorated his cassettes with verve & a certain style, reflecting his love for what he did.
As we hit our final weeks, we are going to look back at some of our project #Highlights, starting at the beginning, with the tapes & this great film made by our audio preservation engineer Duncan @Young_Arms.

When computers looked a little different 👀 Did you know, the world's first transatlantic email was received on campus, during a conference in the Richmond Building in 1973? 📩

Happy New Year to you all! Already thinking about conferences this year? Our Annual Conference with @LondonMetUni on the theme of #Home is taking place on 8-9 July. Call for Papers closes on 31st Jan 2022. Open to all who engage with #oralhistory! https://t.co/L9KueIIY9P
And now, we must insist (across the country) that Stage II begins as soon as possible. It's understandable that budgets are limited—but, with artefacts this fragile, there won't be a second chance after a few years. @DCMS@KeepSounds@TheKeepArchives@BLSoundHeritage @IoSR_Surrey
For our last #TapeboxTuesday of 2021 we share this cassette of bell recordings from the Reg Cockle collection (UTK050 on the British Library sound & moving image catalogue). May its cool blue shell remind you to take care with icy patches when out merry making! Happy Christmas!🎄
