I’ve spent months talking about the need for stronger oversight and accountability in Ohio’s public benefits system.
The headlines may be new, but the problems are not. I’m glad to see these issues are finally getting attention.
We owe it to taxpayers to keep digging, keep asking questions, and keep fighting fraud, waste, and abuse.
In March, Auditor Faber informed the House and Senate Medicaid Committees of anomalies in the home healthcare system that might indicate the presence of large amounts of fraud, waste & abuse.
If you have evidence of fraud, go to https://t.co/cXigHfmiAL & click Report Fraud
Appreciate Rep. Pizzulli’s leadership and advocacy for Southern Ohio.
The Department’s enhanced review of new behavioral health provider applications is an important step to strengthen screening, ownership transparency, and oversight.
Our audits identified over $1.4M in improper payments in just two Scioto County provider audits. Accountability protects taxpayers, good providers, and the Ohioans recovery programs are meant to serve.
At a time when affordability is top of mind for Ohioans, we cannot allow taxpayer dollars to be lost to fraud, waste, and abuse.
Every dollar should be spent as intended, serving the people these programs were created to help.
🚨 @OhioAuditor Faber delivers a powerful walkthrough of the devastating real-life impact of fraud and corruption plaguing Medicaid and other critical programs before @GOPOversight.
Thank you again Chairman @RepBrandonGill for the invitation to testify. I was proud to share our work with Congress as we continue fighting to protect taxpayers and the vulnerable Ohioans Medicaid is meant to serve.
Auditor Faber testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights and Exposing Institutional Abuses about Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse and how our office is promoting transparency and accountability on behalf of taxpayers.
Big Gov programs with weak oversight always attract waste, fraud, and abuse. @KeithFaber details how Ohio's Medicaid system paid benefits to dead people, prison inmates, and individuals enrolled in multiple states. Taxpayers deserve accountability. https://t.co/Gcu6A8bucp
This morning at 10:00 AM, I’ll testify before the House Oversight Committee on vulnerabilities in Medicaid waiver programs and the work our office has done to identify fraud, waste, and abuse.
Taxpayers deserve accountability, and our office will continue sounding the alarm.
Tune in:

Thank you to @FoxNews for highlighting this important issue. Medicaid fraud is not just a Washington problem, and Ohio is helping lead the fight to protect taxpayers and the vulnerable Ohioans who rely on these services.
Year after year, my office has pointed out issues in the Medicaid system and error rates that are likely leading to hundreds of millions or billions of dollars in potential fraud, waste and abuse.

In March, I warned the General Assembly about serious anomalies in Ohio’s home health system, including nearly 40% of Franklin County home health agencies concentrated in just two ZIP codes.
We highlighted the red flags then, and we’ll keep pushing for accountability now. Medicaid exists to serve Ohioans in need, not bad actors.
Fraudsters have been treating Medicaid like a piggy bank, but it ends now.
Ohio is showing what happens when data meets accountability. We followed the money and caught the crooks.
And we’re not done yet. See you again soon, Ohio.
@AkronChildrens does incredible work for kids and families across our state. As Attorney General, I’ll always be committed to protecting Ohio’s children, supporting families, and working with partners who serve our most vulnerable.
Auditor Faber visited @AkronChildrens to discuss community health with hospital leaders and learn more about this 130-year-old institution and how it serves young Ohioans and their families.
We found $118 million in improper payments for services for prisoners and dead people in a single public interest audit. We’ve conducted five of these audits, covering various parts of the Medicaid program, and those audits have found $1.9 billion in improper payments.
I appreciate the invitation to testify before the House Oversight Task Force and look forward to discussing the important work our office is doing to strengthen accountability, improve oversight, and protect taxpayer dollars in Ohio’s Medicaid program. We’ve been ringing the bell on these issues for years, and I welcome the opportunity to share our findings with Congress.

After more than 40 years in uniform, Chief Mier leaves behind a legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to the Copley community. Congratulations on a remarkable career and a well-deserved retirement.
Today in Summit County, Auditor Faber recognized Copley Police Chief Michael Mier, who is retiring after more than 40 years of serving and protecting the public.
The taxpayers of Ohio should not be billed clinical therapy rates for a game of cornhole, a trip to the gym, or a nap.
Sub. HB 795 is an important next step to strengthen oversight, stop fraud, and make sure Medicaid dollars go to legitimate services for eligible Ohioans. 4/4
Today I testified in support of Sub. HB 795 because Ohio needs stronger controls to protect Medicaid dollars.
Since I became Auditor, our office has identified more than $9 billion in unsupported, improper, or fraudulent spending across government.
If taxpayer dollars are stolen, wasted, or abused, we will find it. 🧵1/4
Auditor Faber is testifying before the House Medicaid Committee today on protecting taxpayer dollars in public benefit programs from fraud, waste, and abuse. Our recent state audit found up to $4.4 billion in unsupported #Medicaid payments: https://t.co/cXigHfmiAL.
Our EVV audit found that 56% of home care services were not processed through the EVV system, representing an estimated $1.1 billion in paid claims not matched to an EVV visit.
If Ohio requires EVV, then Ohio should use EVV to verify payment. That is common sense. 3/4
Fraud doesn’t stop at state lines, and neither should the fight to stop it.
Today in Washington, D.C., I joined the @VP’s fraud task force as our office continues partnering with federal leaders to protect taxpayer dollars, strengthen oversight, and hold bad actors accountable.
Every missing child is someone’s son or daughter, and every family deserves answers.
On National Missing Children’s Day, we recommit to bringing missing children home, supporting their families, and giving law enforcement the tools they need to protect Ohio’s kids.
Today is National #MissingChildrensDay, a day to raise awareness for children who are still missing and those still searching for answers.
Since 1984, NCMEC has worked to help find missing children, support families, and create resources that help keep kids safe.
You can help bring missing children home: https://t.co/caQIisAnUe
Today, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave everything in defense of our freedom.
Their sacrifice is the reason we live in the greatest nation on earth. We owe them, and their families, a debt we can never fully repay.
May we never forget.
Yes, you’re reading that right: billion with a B.
When taxpayer dollars are stolen, wasted, or abused, we find it, and we don’t stop until those responsible are held accountable.
Since 2019, the Auditor of State's Office has identified $9 billion in fraud, waste, and abuse of public resources. Our office will continue to work for accountability and transparency in spending on behalf of taxpayers.
As Auditor, my office has released 231 Medicaid provider compliance examinations since 2019 and identified more than $20 million in improper payments.
Last year alone: 47 provider exams and over $4.4 million in improper payments.
I don’t just talk about fraud, waste, and abuse. I find it.
The Auditor of State's Office will continue to watch out for taxpayer resources in the Medicaid system and advocate for improved oversight of these public benefit programs.
