@VanceCrowe@NU_RCTP And @NU_RCTP is not an isolated effort; over the past decade, the work there has influenced many other strong academic #scicomm programs. Science communication is obviously not perfect, but I would argue there are very good reasons for optimism.
@VanceCrowe This is an interesting thread, and I agree some science communicators fall into the pattern you describe. But I think #scicomm as a field is working to change these behaviors. @NU_RCTP, for instance, teaches audience-based communication that seeks common ground.
If physicists taught math:
2+2=5
Uh-oh, that doesn’t add up. There must be an invisible number q that is always added to equations that makes this even up.
2+2+q=5
This is a great article for the coming upskilling revolution. We can't just go find new employees; we have to retrain the excellent ones we have. https://t.co/Rvl6pry6OD
Sometimes I wonder why I don’t lose weight when I exercise daily.
Right now I’m tweeting at the treadmill and I think I’m starting to realize my problem.
@VanceCrowe My wife heard your talk in Salt Lake City today and was very impressed. I'm a rhetoric of science scholar, and I'm thrilled that you're doing such a great job adding clarity to an important topic. Thanks!
