‘The refs hate Caitlin.’ ‘A’ja’s got the special whistle.’ 🫠 Nah. That’s your Reticular Activating System — the filter in your brain that decides what’s important — running on bias.
Here’s the truth: your RAS locks in on what you tell it to. If you believe refs are out to get a player, you’ll find ‘proof’ everywhere. But here’s the flip — when you train your RAS with intention, it becomes your secret weapon.
🧠 How athletes can program their RAS:
•Set specific goals → “I’m attacking the rim with confidence,” not “don’t mess up.”
•Use visualization → Mental reps make game-time moves automatic.
•Build affirmations → Speak success into your system.
•Lock in on focus cues → “See the rim,” “quick feet,” whatever keeps you present.
•Track evidence of growth → Train your brain to see progress, not problems.
This is exactly what I teach my athletes — how to rewire their RAS to block out noise and lock in on performance. 🏀🔥
