MASSIVE #Ableg shoutout to @CorbLund
Corb is calling out SNEAKY UCP Minister of the Environment @rebeccakschulz and the Australian Benga Mines secretly applying to operate coal mines.
Let’s look at the timelines and what Rebecca is attempting to hide from Albertans….

The AB govt has issued its "Rate of Last Resort" regulations. These amend how the default rate for electricity consumers in Alberta that don't opt for a competitive (fixed or floating) rate is set.
Let's take a look at the details... 🧵 #ableg#abpower
It's been a while, so i thought i'd offer another "Fixed or Floating" update for Alberta electricity.
First, if you went fixed above 10c last year, call your retailer or shop around. Current offers are cheaper now and most plans have no cancel fees.

Second, MTG was basing some of her claims on the inaccurate headline of this Daily Mail article.
I read Fauci's 14 hours of private testimony; he never said he "made up" covid rules, esp. because these came from others. (CDC crafted the 6-foot rule; Fauci worked for NIH.)
Quite the difference in the Govt of Alberta’s response to new data centre electric load vs new EV charging electric load.
Apparently one is a great opportunity that will spread fixed costs across a larger base, and the other will raise taxes and threaten grid reliability. 🤷♂️
Premier Smith insisted Alberta Electric Systems Operator asked for a pause on renewables. In fact, internal emails show the AESO head was 'not comfortable' with the plan but was told to 'support the minister without reservation'. Via @DrewPAnderson https://t.co/Hiwwm4RxbU #ableg
Someone recently asked me: should i go fixed or floating for electricity in Alberta now?
I said floating (with the caveat that you may get dinged the occasional month...)
But not the "RRO" floating; go with a market-based floating rate to avoid the 3c "cap repayment adder".
Shortly after the UCP took office in 2019, @theAESO put out their semi-annual long-term outlook. This would have given the UCP gov't a look forward at what those who, to use their own words, were "uniquely positioned" to forecast what was to come in Alberta were expecting. 1/
The AB govt is allowing foreign coal company Northback to reapply AGAIN to pursue mining interests @ Grassy Mtn after being told NO by the Feds & the Prov AER. WHY?? Makes no sense. Vast maj of ABns DON'T want coal mines in our Rockies. #Followthemoney

From property taxes to tuition to out-of-pocket payments: Albertans will pay more as a result of Budget 2024. And their services will deteriorate at the same time.
Alberta’s Education Minister recently attended the opening of another “Classical Academy” charter school in Calgary.
A timely reminder that “Classical Academies” in the USA have been documented to be embedded in far-right white supremacist ideologies:

A former coal mine in the Alberta Rockies is releasing a toxic contaminant at rates dozens of times higher than guidelines, another periodically disgorges water so iron-heavy it stains local creeks orange, says research by provincial govt scientists https://t.co/z3VymUQuHx #ableg

Yesterday, Danielle Smith flew across Alberta, eating steak and talked about “freedom” with a US conspiracy theorist
Also yesterday, Danielle Smith SECRETLY closed down 12 provincial parks with ZERO notice, consultation or chance to appeal
Democracy is dead in Alberta
Lessons from the brink.
My takeaways from Alberta’s near miss with a power blackout 👇
1. Renewables are what they are, and that’s ok
2. On-demand resources are the challenge; the CER needs more flexibility
3. Demand response needs to go mainstream

Nasty air quality in Calgary this morning. Why?
A persistent temperature inversion, as high pressure to the east causes a shallow wedge of cold air to dam up against the terrain, beneath temps ~15C warmer a few hundred metres up.
Pollutants build up down low, with light winds not helping.
The air pressure pattern shifts on Tuesday, enabling mild, Pacific air to flood east across much of the province. #yyc
This deserves a longer answer. I'm creating a short thread.
Under the NDP and with Carl Amrhein as deputy we created a workforce planning committee.
Included, medical schools, AHS, CPSA, AH and had strong technical subcommittee (for data) and a strategy committee. /1
