I'm not using X much with my new account since I'm less involved in politics. But this is the most important thing from my life I can pass on: my testimony about leaving occultic, new age spirituality & returning to Jesus Christ of Nazareth!

This is basically me. Our 2 cats were born & raised in the bush when we got them, so they were utterly miserable kept 100% indoors. They can't catch a bird to save their lives so that isn't a concern (though are excellent mousers), they stay in our yard, they are healthy, spayed & vaccinated so don't spread disease & they don't bother anyone. They get to live a wonderful life & we can still be thoughtful neighbours.
Meanwhile our neighbour's cats (there are 5, we live next to a house converted to 8 apartments) go all over, including our yard. They are out all the time. They're sweet so it's no biggie but I dislike them pooping in our garden occasionally, & I definitely noticed we have less birds now because they're scared to come around. Not a fan of that.
All in all...should I be legally punished because I find it more humane for my half wild kitties to get some time in our yard? Am I an 'irresponsible pet owner'? I would say no. Thus I would feel hypocritical wanting to see others punished if their cats are more of a nuisance, mostly because I wouldn't know where to draw that line. I certainly wish people kept better track of their animals to avoid getting hit by cars, to stop birds being killed, vaccinated to avoid disease spread & of course, spayed/neutered to keep the population down. I think most cities have bylaws about this stuff already, not sure if they're enforced.
@kenpaquette The utter irony being that @Martyupnorth clearly lives rent free in your head...24/7. I have never seen someone so obsessed with someone else online. The amount of time you spend on him is absolutely wild. Are you ok?
We had 2 pleasant, young Mormon gentlemen come to our door tonight. They asked me what I knew about their faith, & if I'd be interested in learning more...I was polite & let them read their verse but ultimately told them we are strong in our Christian faith. After, I said to my husband after 'If only I was Melissa Dougherty...I'd have answered their questions, debated them on the doorstep, & probably converted them both or at least planted seeds. But alas I'm not Melissa, & I just don't remember enough from what I've learned to do that very well.'
All this to say...you're awesome, & such a blessing to the Kingdom of God. I have so much respect for the work you do. You inspire me want to learn (& actually retain) information about other faiths so I can do more than just politely decline in future.
@mandystumpff82@evitaduffy_1 So true. I want to be angry at these types of comments because...and I am, to a degree. But honestly I feel a deep sadness for those who don't get. Not a self-righteous pity, but sadness for what they're missing. For the depth of fullness they can't see.
@berta51stState Will be doing so asap

While I don't doubt that some of the replies calling him out were terrible, I'm a lot more 'disturbed' by his actions & post. Not to mention some of the people who responded in agreement with him - like the replies I've attached here. This whole situation hurts my heart. My dad worked with people with disabilities for years, including many with Down Syndrome. I'm so grateful he brought them into my life as a teenager. They changed all of us for the better...they worked hard, laughed hard, lived big, loved even bigger...I can't imagine believing they have no value or are 'parasites'. May God soften these people's calloused hearts.
I was just thinking this. I have not been able to keep more than intermittent part time work for several years, due to chronic illness. And that illness also surgically took my ability to have kids. Guess everything I do for my family, community, husband, friends, church, rescue dogs...all worthless & I have no value.
Such a cold hearted, gross and utterly incorrect take. I guess he gets points for at least having the balls to be this honest about it.
I grew up around people with intellectual disabilities, including downs syndrome, as my dad worked with them. Not only did they work hard, they changed lives & softened hearts. I am better for having known them, as was my father. My dad was as old school, hard working conservative, but he always saw these people's worth & he'd have kicked the arse of anyone with this attitude.
I don't know if you mean that Candace et al aren't conservatives, clarify if not! (I'm replying after an afternoon of staring at a screen helping with a sideshow for a local dog rescue, my brain is fried lol).
If so, we don't disagree! I just mean I've heard a lot of conservatives & Christians say 'Well Putin sounds good on <insert relevant social topic here>'....they hear sound bites & because he is saying the opposite of the Trudeaus/Macrons/Kamala's of the world, they think its a better option. In reality he is a horrid man.
In other words...people not realizing that the enemy of my enemy is NOT automatically my friend. Woke is bad...Putin, also bad. He just says what he needs to say to appeal to Christians & conservatives in the world, in reality he doesn't care about God at all.
It's a really interesting interview.
Sorry I'm behind on replies - thank you for the good faith interaction. It is appreciated (& rare on X). As for culls...I don't entirely disagree. I would prefer to see prevention so it didn't get to the point of a cull, but I'm a realist (as is Reed) & we recognize that is currently wishful thinking, so culls may be necessary sometimes. As you said, there just aren't enough homes, plus it is a huge safety problem for the community members, & sometimes euthanasia is actually a mercy for these pups. My issue is more the inhumane nature of many of these culls - it isn't just a quick bullet to the head, or a quick injection at the vet, it is often a slow death or years of painful injury if the dog survives.
I apologize - I got a bit snarky in my reply to you. This topic fires me up as I've become more involved with rescues & am seeing the most horrible things, as well as seeing a lot of excuses which gets harder to hear every day. I think that's how I read into it. I do respect that you were providing some context.
Slowly but surely, people like Reed, & so many rescues, as well as those who volunteer (foster/adopt/donate/etc), are trying their best! I don't know how to make the justice system, media or politicians take it seriously, though. That requires a huge cultural shift, but for now, we help how we can. :)
I've heard several of Anthony's songs (solo & with his band), & I judge them as a fellow musician & a harsh critic who despises unoriginal modern music...but I think he's great. You & I certainly agree that there's no shortage of generic, AI-sounding music, I just don't put Anthony in that camp. You do, & I won't likely convince you otherwise so I'll just wish you a good week!
@RealKeriSmith Thank you for being awesome! I hope one day to be able to visit you, & also have a jam session in your epic living room with your hubby. ๐
My friend & fellow ex-lefty, Keri, has an incredibly talented hubby. You should follow him wherever you find music. Also...may as well follow Keri while you're at it. She's delightful.๐
My husband, Anthony Garcia, makes a good living solely from his music, but he is not famous. ๐ถ He melts faces with his guitar at live shows. If anyone Not-Woke with means decides to start investing in good musicians and concerts, I know a several others with talent as well. โค๏ธ Enjoy:
