Following a £2.66 million funding boost, a new doctoral training centre will train the next generation of environmental science researchers to tackle some of the UK's key challenges - including #pharmapollution!
To reduce #pharmapollution we are using a systems thinking approach with three clear aims:
1⃣ Define the problem
2⃣ Mobilise the research community
3⃣ Collectively identify pragmatic solutions
So what is #systemsthinking? Dr @kelly_thornber explains: https://t.co/CmDHP9gfXJ
Did you know that up to 90% of the #medicines we consume end up in our wastewater?💊 Some of these pollutants are driving #AntimicrobialResistance. Here's how we're working to reduce the environmental impact of medicines: https://t.co/Otm3gx0RXX

Great work! With so much effort going into reducing antimicrobial usage, it’s crazy to think that inefficient use and inappropriate disposal is still commonplace…hopefully this report will help boost action here 🙏😁
A real pleasure to see @ICUdocX & Georgie Sowman from @oceansandus for the launch of the new report from @natalieben’s office. So much opportunity for collaborative work with these wonderful people—can’t wait to further explore the intersection between #AMR, #plastic, and oceans!

#PharmaPollution is a marine issue as well as a freshwater one 😔.
On way home from #EurOcean2023...great talks Marica Mezzelani from #Pharmasea and @_bgzorn_ (who made #AMR fun?!). Honoured to share the panel with Niall McDonough, Tainá Garcia da Fonseca & Nenad Gligoric 😊
@OneHealthBP Well done @OneHealthBP!! I didn’t know what to expect from a Twitter/X conference…it was interesting, concise (always good), different (to social media dinosaurs like me) & fun! A great way to share info. Fabulous 😁👏🏻
Interesting work! If we want to translate AMR national/global strategies into the real-world we need more funding for this type of context-specific, implementation research…
(10/10) Thank you all for engaging today! Main takeaway: there are areas of improvement to support collaboration for a OH approach to AMR in the environment. Key to this is better awareness, understanding, & support of OH + the environment as an important dimension #OHBP2023
