Davenport, Fla. — A group of 15 vacationers visiting Polk County was arrested after deputies say they worked together to steal food and drinks from a Davenport Wawa. A 16th person was also arrested after allegedly interfering with deputies during the investigation.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Friday, June 26, at the Wawa on Old Lake Wilson Road. The suspects, made up of 12 adults and three juveniles from several Florida counties, were staying at a nearby Airbnb while visiting the area.
Store employees told deputies they watched members of the group conceal drinks and snacks inside their clothing before consuming or attempting to leave without paying. Investigators said the group arrived in a BMW, Tesla, and Honda Accord and took turns entering the store over a 15-minute period. Some allegedly distracted employees while others committed the thefts.
The stolen items included Calypso drinks, Brisk iced tea, Cheetos, and ramen noodles, totaling about $40.
Deputies arrived before the group left the parking lot. According to the Sheriff’s Office, surveillance video captured the coordinated thefts, stolen items were recovered, and all 15 suspects admitted to taking merchandise.
The adults were booked into the Polk County Jail, while the three juveniles were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. All were charged with petit theft and tampering with evidence. The adult suspects also face charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
One suspect was additionally charged with violating probation, while three others face marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges after deputies reportedly found drugs inside one of the vehicles.
During the investigation, deputies also arrested 18-year-old Jayden Murphy after they say he repeatedly ignored commands to move away from the scene and yelled at the suspects not to cooperate with law enforcement. He was charged under Florida’s Halo Law with two counts of harassing first responders and two counts of resisting an officer.
Sheriff Grady Judd said the arrests are a reminder that visitors who commit crimes in Polk County will be held accountable.

Beginning Monday (July 6th), we will stream America's Mayor Live at 5 pm ET instead of 8 pm ET.
On 4th of July, I'm reminded how fortunate we are to live in the greatest country on Earth.
As we celebrate America's 250th birthday this week, I'm especially grateful to serve a President who believes that people who work hard every day deserve to keep more of what they earn. No tax on tips. No tax on overtime. No tax on Social Security. Historic relief through the Working Families Tax Cuts.
That's not just good policy. It's a belief in the American worker and the American Dream.
Yesterday June 30 -- In case you missed it marked 13 years when in Yarnell, AZ 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots were killed while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire.
The backstory
When the fire started, dry lightning had struck a patch of vegetation in steep, mountainous terrain and ignited the fire high on a ridge west of Yarnell, which hadn't experienced a wildfire in nearly 50 years.
Two days later, the hotshots were battling the fire in a box canyon when the winds suddenly shifted and the flames rapidly raced toward them. The 19 men tried to deploy emergency shelters: tent-like structures meant to shield firefighters from the flames and heat.
The gusty, hot winds caused the fire to intensify to more than 2,000 degrees and cut off the firefighters' escape route, killing the men, authorities said.
The Yarnell Hill Fire charred more than 13 square miles and destroyed 127 buildings.
