It's remarkable that Sergei Prokofiev never made it onto the Coolmore stallion roster—yet he's already a proven champion sire three times over.

After a stellar start to his stud career at Whitsbury Manor Stud in England—where he delivered outstanding early results and offered tremendous value at a final covering fee of £8,000—the son of Scat Daddy has been acquired by Ballycroy Bloodstock in Ontario, Canada. He will stand there for CA$10,000 in 2026.

As a third-crop sire in 2026, Sergei Prokofiev looks set to be a major contender once again, taking on heavyweights like Hello Youmzain, Ghaiyyath, and Pinatubo in the 3rd crop sires championship.

It does feel surprising to see him sold at this stage. With such promising progeny and commercial momentum building in Europe, you'd expect significant local interest in retaining him. That said, there's a poetic symmetry to the move:

Sergei Prokofiev is returning home to Ontario, where he was originally bred by Anderson Farms.We wish him—and everyone involved—every success in this exciting new chapter!

A proven champion heading back to his roots could be the start of something truly special in Canadian breeding.
